10 to 15 inches in Ohio, 20-25 inches in Pennsylvania and
West Virginia, 30 inches in Pittsburg, Phyladelphia,
Baltimore, Northern Delaware, and most of Maryland... and
now, through today and tomorrow, another one is brewing to
do it all over again... Its shaping up to be the snowiest
winter season ever for many midwest and eastern states.
All while where I live, temperatures hover in the 50's, and
the weather remains generally calm, and very, very mild.
I know a lot of people have gotten too much winter this
year, but we haven't had any, basically... my tulips are
already coming up!
It seems that Google wants to start up yet another social
site... It was Dave's idea... Who put the Bush sign up?
BHO is still in a downward spiral as far as popularity
goes... "Snowmageddon" delays the announcement of the new
NOAA "Global Warming" department... They're frantically
trucking in snow for the Winter Olympics... And we end with
a series of really cool chairs.
Hope all is well with everyone! Its Tuesday
already! Have a great day!

The strongest earthquake ever recorded on May 22, 1960.
It was a 9.5 magnitude that struck off the coast of Chile,
causing tsunamis over 10 meters high that traveled as far as
Hawaii, Japan, and New Zealand, killing 4,000-5,000 and
leaving over 2,000,000 people homeless. It was recorded by
the United States Geological Service (USGS) and measured 9.5
on the Richter scale.
The earthquake that released the most energy was the New
Madrid Earthquake, which shook the midwest of the US,
centered on a very old fault near New Madrid Missouri.
It shook the ground from December 1811 through February
1812, with several strong quakes interspersed during that
time. The Mississippi river flowed north for a while,
and the ground was reshaped, forcing the river to find a new
course in several places. If it were to happen today,
it would be devastating in terms of property damage, but
when it struck, there wasn't anything there, so while the
ground was reshaped quite a bit, not a lot of people were
impacted. For most of the event, the magnitude levels
were 5-6, but several larger spikes have been estimated at 8
or more.

Ugh... another one.
Gmail
users will soon have more ways to keep up with their friends
via a widget that shows quick status updates like Facebook
and Twitter do, The Wall Street Journal reports.
The
move would further turn Gmail, which revolutionized online
e-mail, into a comprehensive communications hub. The intent
is to keep people’s attention centered on Google, by making
Gmail, not Facebook, people’s
first stop online — and their default place to send and
receive messages. Gmail users can already chat via Jabber or
AIM, make video calls, and send SMS messages from Gmail’s
web interface.
Jay
Leno on his show Monday night told his audience that the
Super Bowl ad with David Letterman was a chance to get
laughs with his “old friend again.” He also shared with the
audience how the commercial, which he said was Mr.
Letterman’s idea, came to be.
Mr. Leno said he was
immediately drawn to the idea and saw the commercial as a
way to poke fun at the comedians’ especially fractious
relationship of late.
“No matter what animosity
there is among comedians, a good joke is a good joke,” Mr.
Leno said. Their relationship soured in the wake of NBC’s
moves that led to the departure of Conan O’Brien from the
“Tonight” show and Mr. Leno’s impending return to the show,
where he will once again compete with Mr. Letterman.
Independent voters see Pres. Obama in a negative light by
a nearly 2-1 margin, according to a new Marist College
survey, while almost half of voters say he has failed to
meet their expectations.
The poll, conducted Feb.
1-3, showed just 44% of registered voters approving of
Obama's job as president. 47% disapprove. But among indie
voters, Obama's approval rating sits at a terrible 29%,
while his disapproval rating is at 57%.
Obama's 44%
job approval rating is the lowest he has scored in any
non-internet poll since moving into the WH, according to a
review of data compiled by Pollster.com.
And while
GOPers strive to avoid attacking Obama personally, for fear
of offending voters who see him in a favorable light
personally, even that aura of invincibility is wearing off.
Independent voters view Obama negatively, too, by a 39%
favorable to 52% unfavorable margin.
The biggest winter storm in close to 90 years walloped
the mid-Atlantic states This weekend, shutting down
Washington, D.C., and burying the region in power outages,
flight cancellations and miserable driving conditions.
As D.C. continued to dig out from Snowmageddon and is
keeping an eye on another storm system, the National Oceanic
and Atmospheric Administration was busy making plans for an
announcement or a new climate change office.
NOAA,
part of the Department of Commerce, is going to be providing
information to individuals and decision-makers through a new
NOAA Climate Service office. “More and more, Americans are
witnessing the impacts of climate change in their own
backyards, including sea-level rise, longer growing seasons,
changes in river flows, increases in heavy downpours,
earlier snowmelt and extended ice-free seasons in our waters
The announcement of the new department has been delayed
by more than 2 feet of snow, with about 10-20 expected
today.
There's no snow in our area,
either... Last year, we got 77 inches of snow... so far this
year, we've gotten 2 1/2...
I took a drive up to the
pass to see some snow... there's SOME, but nothing like
there should be. Typically, about 100 inches of snow
have fallen by this point... this year, its just under 30.
This was from 2 weeks ago... there's even less up there
now
Sad.
Organizers of the Winter Olympics in Vancouver were today
stubbornly refusing to consider a last-minute venue change
after an unseasonably warm weather front put the competition
under threat.
With just four days until the Games'
opening ceremonies, the Canadian city still has not seen any
snow. Ironically, parts of neighboring America have been
buried under a two-foot blanket of snow after the worst
blizzard in 90 years.
Forecasters say this is due to
a band of low pressure keeping the snow front largely south
of the border.
