Greetings!

We had a very blustery night last night... but we didn't lose power.  After a couple of winters where it wasn't very stable, it seems that the power company has figured out where the trouble areas were, because we haven't had an outage in a long time.  It seems the worst of this round is going to miss us to the north.  The snow lines should stay above 3000 feet, unfortunately.

This guy has a good idea... I might have to try it... A couple of things got my attention about Haiti... FINALLY, Netflix is coming to Wii... Presidential Facebook problems.

Well, hope all is well with everyone!!!  Its Friday eve!  Have a great day... and if you're in the PNW, hold on to your hat, its going to be another blustery one!

This is a good idea!

A link to this guy's site was sent to me... what a good idea he has!

Have you lost your camera recently? Mislaid it somewhere in a national park? Left it in a taxi? Dropped it in the gorilla pit? Anyone can be a victim of the thoughtlessness and/or sleepiness that can lead to Camera Loss.

‘How can I prevent Camera Loss?’ I hear you ask, wishing I’d get to the point. Well, you can’t prevent cameras from getting lost, but you can do something so your camera can be found very soon after it has vanished.

All you have to do is take some photos – which you never delete from your camera – so when someone finds your camera at the bottom of the gorilla pit they are able to locate you and return the lost property to its rightful owner.

To illustrate just how you can safeguard your camera from the crippling effects of Camera Loss, here are the pics that I always keep on my camera.

Not to belabor the point, but...

I know Haiti is all over the news... but this statement in a story in the news really brought out just how big a deal it was...

President Rene Preval said he believes thousands were killed in Tuesday afternoon's magnitude-7.0 quake, and the scope of the destruction prompted other officials to give even higher estimates. Leading Sen. Youri Latortue told The Associated Press that 500,000 could be dead, although he acknowledged that nobody really knows.  (Link to article on Brietbart)

500,000!  Wow.  That's just shy of the population of Portland, Oregon... a lot of folks.  I looked it up... Haiti has a population of just over 8.7 million people (as of 2007).  That works out to about 5.7 percent... which is a pretty big chunk of any population!

The picture on the right is of a church in Port-au-Prince.  The cross remains while the church itself is rubble.  The Archbishop of Haiti perished in the quake; the cathedral collapsed while he was inside it.

In the email I got with this picture, the following verse accompanied it:

"BE MERCIFUL and gracious to me, O God, be merciful and gracious to me, for my soul takes refuge and finds shelter and confidence in You; yes, in the shadow of Your wings will I take refuge and be confident until calamities and destructive storms are passed."
Psalm 57:2.

I thought it fit pretty well.

Here's some other pictures I've gotten in emails...

US Military unload gear as they arrive in Port-au-Price's airport to begin assistance

I'd seen the picture of the national palace being damaged, but I didn't understand just how bad it was damaged... until I saw a before and after... then I understood what they meant by 'devastated'

FINALLY the Wii gets Netflix

The No. 1 video game console is taking a page out of the playbooks of the ones in second and third place.

Nintendo Co. announced Wednesday that it would add Netflix's movie-streaming service to its Wii console this spring.

Microsoft Corp. added the Netflix streaming function to its Xbox 360 console in November 2008. Sony Corp. did the same on its PlayStation 3 in November 2009.

As with Xbox 360 and PS3, the Netflix streaming service will be free to the more than 11 million people who already subscribe to Netflix's movie rental service.

The news was a head-scratcher for those who recall Nintendo's insistence since the Wii was launched three years ago that its console was not meant to be a general-purpose digital entertainment device, like the Xbox 360 and PS3. Unlike its competitors, the Wii cannot play Blu-ray discs or even standard DVDs.

Presidential Facebook Problems

Croatia's newly elected president has run into a problem -- how to accept thousands of new friends on Facebook.

The issue seems to underscore Ivo Josipovic's image of a new statesman for a new era, who should oversee the final stage of Zagreb's accession talks with the European Union this year, and lead the former Yugoslav republic into the bloc in 2012.

"I have 5,000 friends, which is the maximum allowed on Facebook. I also have another 7,000 waiting so I don't know how we'll work that out," the silver-haired, bespectacled law expert and classical music composer told state radio on Tuesday.
