Greetings

Well, you might have noticed that the "Update" has a newish name...  I dropped the "Daily" -- and the "almost Daily"... I'm not kidding anyone, eh?  =)  As JerryW used to say... its the "once in a while when I can get around to it Update."  I guess I finally accepted it...

While the rest of the country is being treated to yet another cold spell, we're being hit with another round of warm rains... this time, though, I guess the rain is supposed to be a bit heavier than what we normally get, which could lead to flooding issues.

its cold all over the place, it seems... Its amazing this lady survived... Sea Turtle tank level lowered (you'll understand why its here when you read it)... No weather today!

Hope all is well with everyone!  Happy Friday! Have a great weekend!

I was looking for when the "World wide web" went public, which was toward the end of 1994 (my site went up in 1995)... but I did write "Internet", which is a whole different ball of wax...

The "Internet" went public in 1978 once private entities hosted switches to handle traffic, and opened them up to businesses.  Prior to that, DARPANET was limited to government use, primarily by the military, for use as a distributed communication system that would be more resistant to interference by a nuclear strike on a particular location.

The "World Wide Web" was first dreamed up by CERN in 1989.  After testing the new "HTTP" protocol, and the subset of the "SGM" document reader format, "HTML" for a while, in 1994, CERN rolled out the new protocol that layered over the TCP/IP protocol-based Internet... and the Web was born.

My website started in 1995, with 6 pages... its now pushing towards 6,000.  More than 2000 unique IP addresses a month request a page from my website... my most popular page is this one.

Interesting News Tidbits
Sometimes, a story is too interesting NOT to share...

Its not just in the US...

Its amazing she lived through it

RAPID CITY, S.D. — South Dakota authorities say a woman found passed out in a stolen delivery van earlier this month registered a blood alcohol content of .708 — nearly nine times the legal limit and a possible record for the state.

Meade County State’s Attorney Jesse Sondreal said Wednesday that 45-year-old Marguerite Engle was found slumped over the van’s steering wheel along a highway on Dec. 1.

He says the highest blood alcohol content state chemists he spoke with could recall was a .56. The state’s legal limit is .08.

Authorities say Engle missed an initial court hearing Dec. 15, but that they found her Monday in another stolen vehicle, and that she had been drinking.

She was being held on two counts of driving under the influence. It wasn’t immediately clear if she was facing other charges.

Her attorney declined comment.

Sea Turtle tank water level lowered 6 inches due to Brussel Sprouts

You know me... I only post the most serious news stories here... =)

Staff at the Great Yarmouth Sea Life Centre in Norfolk give turtles a seasonal treat of brussel sprouts at Christmas which provide a healthy dose of vitamins, minerals and fibre.

However, the turtles, like humans, are prone to heavy bouts of flatulence after eating the vegetables.

Last year a turtle at a Sealife Centre triggered overflow alarms in the middle of the night after the splashes from gassy bubbles hit overflow sensors.

Now the Yarmouth turtle tank -12 feet in depth and width holding 250,000 litres of water along with George the 3ft long green turtle - has been partially emptied for the festive season.

Thousands of litres have been removed to lower the water by a six inches and keep the sensitive alarms clear.

Displays Supervisor Christine Pitcher said: ''Last time an aquariist had to dash to the centre in the middle of the night, so we're not going to take any chances
