In 1924, the Biddeford Fire Department took its first step to full motorization with the addition of Engine #1, an Ahrens-Fox 750 gpm pumper, followed by ladder #1, a 1926 Ahrens-Fox 7ft. aerial and Engine #2 a 1928 Ahrens-Fox 1000gpm pumper.

The first Ahrens-Foxes served the department well, retiring in 1963 from active fire service. Today the department is lucky to still have Engine #1 which is the centerpiece of its museum.
