| Tropical Storm Nate |
| Nearing the Mainland |
|
Nate spawned itself early on the 7th of September...
Nate is expected to strengthen and drift northward today, then turn to a northeasterly track Thursday threatening Bermuda as a category 1 hurricane. A tropical storm watch has been posted for the island.

Nate has strengthened to a hurricane (the 6th hurricane this season) and has
peak winds of 85 mph. Nate is moving to the northeast and positioned about
135 miles SE of Bermuda.
Nate is expected to continue its track to the northeast allowing Bermuda to escape the worst effects of the hurricane. Because of its proximity, though, a tropical storm warning is posted for the island.

As of 5 a.m. EDT Friday, Hurricane Nate was located about 400 miles
east-northeast of Bermuda, near 33.6 degrees north and 58.1 degrees west.
Nate is now moving east-northeast at 22 mph, with this general motion
expected through Thursday night and perhaps even Friday.
Hurricane Nate caused heavy rain and gusty winds across Bermuda with heavy surf on the South Shore beaches during the day Thursday. Conditions are now improving as the storm pulls away from Bermuda.
