About 100 years ago, John Olmstead, from the Olmstead farm, the first settlement in Kittatas valley, near Ellensburg, created a series of parks around the Seattle area, calling them an "Emerald Necklace".. the Arboretum is one of his creations... here is a bridge in Leschi Park... Then, and now.
