1775: Spanish Land in PNW
Not a good experience for those who did, though.
<< Back
Spanish explorers Bruno Heceta (Hezeta y Dudagoita) and Juan Francisco de
la Bodega y Quadra explore the Washington coast in 1775. Seven of Heceta's
crewmen become the first Europeans to walk -- and die -- in the future state
of Washington when they land near Neah Bay on July 14, 1775, and are
promptly killed by natives.
