1935 - Biddeford upgrades its water plant
State of the art facility still serves the city today
| Increases in size, and advances in water treatment
technology prompts Biddeford to do a vast overhaul of its water
treatment plant, which was showing signs of difficulty keeping up with
the city's growth. Amidst heavy criticism, the facility was purposely
built "too large", using advanced technology, saving money in the long
run... this effective planning allows the plant to run today, largely
unchanged.

The pump room, above has remained virtually the same,
from1935, left, and 1990, on the right...
The same filtration tanks are also still in use... a wall has been
added, reflecting a changed roofline, and an arched interior wall,
largely for cosmetic purposes... |

 |
| The facility has proved modern enough to keep
Biddeford's water supply safe and clean even into the 21st Century. |
