Known at the time as the "Great Fire," the Pepperell
Cotton Storehouse on Pearl Street in Biddeford burned the
night of October 29, 1915.
The loss of $500, 000 made this the most costly fire
Biddeford had yet known, as well as one of the most
spectacular.

The Pepperell Mills' cotton storehouse on
Pearl Street, Biddeford, caught fire during the night of
October 29, 1915. It burned through the night, and large
portions of the wall collapsed.
