1910: St Andre Church Dedicated

Biddeford deemed too large for only one parish

It was on November 30, 1899 that Bishop Healy decided to institute a new parish in Biddeford. St. Joseph Church had ministered to the city's Franco-American Catholics since 1864 but now had simply grown too large.

On June 5,1910, Bishop Walsh dedicated the completed St. Andre Church. It was not long before a parish school was established. This was initially staffed by the Sisters of the Good Shepherd, then by the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary. In 1930, the Brothers of the Sacred Heart became part of the teaching staff. In 1940, a high school for girls was established.
