1636 - List of the Settlers
Vine's town, Saco, takes shape
On "7 ber" (September) 7, 1636, a "book of rates", a list of quarterly Tithes to be paid to the minister was issued. It is from this list that a listing of at least the "man of the house" can be derived... This is about 5 years after the settlement began... not too many people. I would guess that that is because the conditions were so harsh, especially in the winters. I put how much they had
to pay, to give an idea of the relative wealth...
