1630: Transfer of Ownership

Captain Vines and John Oldham take possession of land grants

<< Back

On the 25th of June, 1630, Captain Richard Vines takes possession of the land granted in the Biddeford Patent.  During the same ceremony, John Oldham takes possession of his grant on the west side of the Saco.

Isaac Allerton, one of the original settlers of the colony of New Plymouth (AKA, the pilgrims), is in attendance.

Vines arrived with 3 ships worth of colonists, one of which is named the Lyon, out of Bristol, England.   The number of colonists who were under the direction of Vines is not known.
