1607 - First Mention of New England on a Map
An attempt to impress Queen Elizabeth 1 is almost comical
This is an image of a map drawn up in 1607, for Queen Elizabeth. The blue arrow points out a prominent looking map, labeled Cape Elizabeth, which is not to scale - by a long way! In an effort to garnish her approval, the cape was 'enhanced' a bit to make it seem more impressive than it really was... after all, how would she ever know?
