Rainier Tower
< Back to Seattle

One of the more interesting buildings in Seattle is the Rainier tower.

At 54 floors, its not nearly the tallest building in the city, but its distinctive base, designed to be appealing while at the same time providing road-side set-back so that folks out on the sidewalks don't fee so shut in.

It's nicknamed "The Pencil" for obvious reasons...
It rocks in the wind quite a bit, but apparently, its not any less stable than any other building.

The concrete arches are quite striking to look up at.
The building itself hangs over half the sidewalk - which is why the building is shaped as it is... it allows for a larger building in a smaller foot print for its base.

Its pretty striking, in my humble opinion...
