Seaside, Oregon
This is the farthest Lewis and Clark went.

Seaside is an interesting stop along the Oregon Coast.

One of the more interesting aspects of its history is that this is as far as Lewis and Clark went on their trek.  They used this location to process salmon and other foods to bring on their trip home, with the help of local natives.  Their winter camp was a few miles from here, at the mouth of the Columbia River.

A memorial of sorts marks the location where Lewis recorded their farthest point, before returning back to report their findings to President Jefferson.

This is the sign to Girtles, where they have THE BEST clam chowder I've found here on the West Coast - although it still falls short of what you can get in Maine.   :-)

In a coffee shop across from the Shilo hotel, I found this curious sign on the wall, and checked out the information plaque that went with it... pretty interesting I thought.

Every year, Seaside hosts a Sand Castle competition...

They HAVE to use a fixing agent!

Some of the creations are incredible!

Its the beach that's the big draw, obviously... Seaside's beach is a good one for walking on just as the sun is setting... especially if the tide has just gone out.

Tillamook Rock Lightstation is one of the features in view of the beach... Its pretty impressive!

The town isn't that large, but it sure is crowded in the summer... so I tend to visit in the winter.  The weather might not be as nice, but I get to enjoy it more without fighting all the crowds.
