This is the place where I spent the most of my free time in
the Summer. It if was over 72 degrees, we were allowed to go
to the park. It didn't matter if it was raining or
not... the temperature was the key.
Many a day was spent in the open garage doorway of the
Shed, playing spades with the life guards... very fun times! |

The park was built on an old land fill. The city used to
have a drag line lift in the winter that would haul you up the
hill in your sled so that you could slide down, but it got old
and eventually broke, and no one ever paid to fix it... it was
still fun to slide down, it just took a bit work effort to get
to the top. Most people, though, went there to swim in the
Saco River. We'd often swim across to the "Bulkie",
remnants of an old train bridge, to swim. You could get
real messed up if you weren't careful (people often did,
actually), but there were some great diving locations off that
thing! |
