We woke up to a light drizzle...

The drizzle gave way to a heavy fog early in the morning...

I walked out on the beach, and took a look.  While the scenery was nice, it wasn't really what we wanted...

It seemed that heavier clouds were rolling in over the top of the marine layer.
It sure made for an interesting view, though... I lingered for a while, then went back to the campsite.

Before too long, we were all up and at 'em.

The Camp coffe was as good as ever, and none of us had gotten very cold or wet during the night, and we were in great spirits.

The Shadow Lady's younger sister broke out her guitar, and we sang a few songs while waiting for breakfast.

The crew picked for breakfast really outdid themselves... the  blackberry and blueberry pockets were awesome!

After breakfast, we broke down the campsites, and cleaned up.

We decided to stay local, rather than head out to Ruby Beach, which is what we had done the last few years... with the weather being like it was, no one seemed to be sticking around, and it didn't seem like it'd be too crowded.

The kids didn't mind the weather at all, it seemed.
A lot of the rest of the family showed up, and everyone had a good time catching up on everything.

It was good to see everyone... some of us are a bit scattered, and we don't get to be all in the same place as often as we'd like.

I went out towards the receding surf to take some pictures.  The damp sand really made for a nice scene...
It was nice, even with the threatening rain... there's something about the sound of the surf, and the smell of the salt air that really is soothing.
While I was watching the waves, I noticed two otters playing in the surf... one had managed to catch himself a flat fish of some sort.

The pair ambled along the intersurf area.  They kept an eye on me, but didn't really seem too concerned.

It was fun watching them!

Just as things were wrapping up anyway, the rain started to increase in its intensity.

Some of us didn't really notice...   they were having too much fun in the dirt!

We had a great time visiting with everyone, and it was sad to have to head out... but everything comes to an end, especially the things you enjoy, it seems.

Just as we got to the parking lot, the skies opened up.... it REALLY started coming down!

A few miles back from the beach, and the rain stopped... it figures, eh?

It was a nice drive... not too bad on the traffic at all.

We stopped at the Timberland Regional Library's old "Bookmobile"... the Shadow Lady's grandmother had something to do with this at one time... now, its a relic from the past.

It was interesting to see... a bit of history.  I think that's the same phone number, even.

This really opened up the Library system to folks who were normally too distant to benefit from it... they still use this sort of thing to widen the accessibility, so it was a good idea.

The drive went well.  We took "the back way", to avoid traffic, which worked very well, until we HAD to get on I-5... it was packed.  Typically, the Monday of Labor Day is known for the Mother of all Traffic Jams that it creates.  It was stop and go for a while, but it wasn't too bad - we went through a bit earlier than the worst of it, so we were lucky.

Highway 18 moved right along...

Before too long, we were back home, under the Ridge.

It had been a great weekend!  What a great way to hail in the changing of the seasons!
