Iceland: Getting There
< Back to Iceland

The morning of the flight was very peaceful... the view from the hotel was pretty impressive... the smooth waters of the Snoqualmie River reflected the power station at the top of the falls very nicely...
We took one last look at the falls, and breathed in the cool, misty air... then headed to the lobby to be picked by the car that was waiting to take us to the airport.
Driving across the 520 bridge, we saw the boats lining up for Seafair, and The Shadow Lady managed to get a picture as we zipped by.
Taking off from Seattle,we were treated to some INCREDIBLE Views.  Lake Washington was awesome!  Mercer Island, in the upper left portion of the lake, could clearly be seen, as well as both bridges.  I don't ever remember having such a great view of the lake before... it was NICE!

Shortly after that, a view of Mt Rainier, Mt Adams, and Mt St Helens (its faintly on the horizon to the right of Mt Rainier)... You could see Mt Hood, too, but it was too dim for the camera to pick up, unfortunately.

This picture was funny to us, because we work with a Valdis.

Iceland Air seemed to be a very nice airline.  Their stewardesses wore the older style uniforms, with the little hat and everything... they looked very professional, and did a great job keeping people comfortable.  Pop, juice, milk and water was free, and they had a good assortment of selections to choose from.

It was a full flight.

It was nice to see the seat towels, held on with Velcro.  The US Carriers seemed to have forgotten how much better it makes everyone feel.

Does anyone besides me ever wonder what the hole in the window's glass is for???  I always found it curious.

The sun never really set on us, even though we flew through the "night" and landed in Iceland in the early morning.  The Sun sets around 11 or so, and rises at 3-ish... in June, it never really sets, it just dips below the horizon for a moment or two.

Landing was interesting... the breaks in the clouds we had showed only water... it wasn't until the very end that we saw land.

Its always interesting to see the differing architecture when you visit a new place...

On the way from the airport to the city of Reykjavik, which is about 40 minutes away, you drive through an old lava bed... it was quite interesting... not much grass, or any other plants... just a low moss for the most part.
