This is one place we kept coming back to... the popular Blaa Lanio -
Blue Lagoon. It is the most visited attraction in Iceland...
we went there 3 times, ourselves!
|
 |
 |
From the parking lot, its a stort trail through the lava beds
surrounding the lagoon to the facilities of the Lagoon.
They had lockers to hold your stuff, towels... everything you'd need
to soak and relax.
|
The effects of the salts and minerals in the water were VERY
soothing, and the hot water was so relaxing... yeah, it was NICE!
There were a lot of people there, but the lagoon was quite large, and
it was easy to find a spot where you were by yourselves for the most
part. There usually was a low fog hanging on the surface, further
adding to the feeling of seclusion.

 |
 |
The water had an unusual blue-green, milky appearance, and had a
slight "volcanic" odor, but not so bad that it was unpleasant.
The temperature of the lagoon was fairly constant, although there
were pockets of warmer and cooler water... it was pretty easy to
find a spot with a stable temperature.
|
A 'geyser' let in additional hot water. It was capped, and workers
opened it periodically to let off pressure, and that, in turn, added
hot water to the lagoon.
The effect was nice... the sound of the steam provided the source for
a fitting background "white noise", which was quite nice.
|
 |
 |
The salts and minerals precipitated out of the water, and coated the
floor, seats, steps, railings, rocks... just about everything in the
lagoon.
It made everything smooth... including your skin.
|
It was MUCH more soothing than it looks... we REALLY enjoyed it - so
much so that we came here 2 extra times, just because it was so
nice!
On the day we left, we spent the morning here, and took the bus from
here to the airport... We soaked for almost 3 hours... it was a nice
way to relax before a long flight!
