0530 - Woke up... a bit of back pain, but I was OK.

0540 - Made Coffee, this time starting with the Silver Bullet

It was a very quiet morning.  To shake my back out, I walked around the compound, to see different angles to get pictures from.

The valley across the way was very quiet... a barking dog or two, but it was very still.

0630 - Morning Crew showed up

0730 - Breakfast.  LOTS of french toast... good stuff!

0830 - Bible Study - "Mourning".  When we mourn over something and look to God for comfort, we gain the blessing of really KNOWING His comfort.

A tire in one of the trucks was low - it had grabbed a couple of nails on the way home... we went with one of the Agros guys and had it fixed.

0950 - drove out to the Village.

Each of the villagers had a tool shed they kept their tools in... the larger, or more expensive tools were "community" property, and they were kept in the community's shed.

We assembled there, and waited for the peas to show up.

The peas were only a few minutes behind us, and in short order, the Agros' farmer was explaining the process of planting, and how the peas were going to be separated out.
Once everyone knew the plan, the peas were broken out by weight to each of the participating families.  Some had bought more than others... it was based on risk.
The peas were pink.  The Agros rep told me that it was because they were covered in a disease-preventing fertilizer, and something that would taste bad to the birds.
The kids were there, too... I think so that we would take their picture.

The Shadow Lady and I were assigned to Ana, who is a widow, and had bought in to the peas.
We put down the fertilizer, and planted the seeds.

we also ran across a fairly sizable ant hill... they were biting ants, and they weren't happy we'd just upset their home.

After we were done, we all tromped back to the village.
The trail was well-worn!
The way we went brought us by the green house, so we stopped in.

There were 7 families who had pitched in on the greehouse, and there was a schedule for the year as to what family could use the greenhouse posted on the door.

There were a LOT of peppers...

We also checked out the community oven.

Most villagers have their own oven now, smaller versions of this one.

1300 - Lunch

We spent some time playing with the kids.  It was a lot of fun!

Spending time with the people of the village, talking (through interpreters) with them, and playing with their kids really bonded us all together.
I brought a frisbee with me, thinking it would be fun.

They had a blast with it, but then the older kids started to see how far they could get it to go... and soon enough, it was high in a tree.

1600 - Headed out to neighboring village to pick up an Agros Employee, and bring him with us to Cotzal.

It was a nice drive, and we got some pretty impressive views along the way!

Cotzal is a very small town... very different from what I'm used to, but quaint in its own way.

Some of the roads were very steep, and very narrow.

One thing that surprised me was the internet cafe.

I thought it was interesting that they used the Microsoft "E"xporer symbol as the logo of their shop...

The keyboards had some weird keys on them, but otherwise they were fine.

Walking home from eating, we came across worker truck that had broken open, and spilled some of its contents...

There were a LOT of people in that truck too...

The sky was SO dark... there were MILLIONS of stars!  My camera let me have the shutter open for up to 60 seconds, so I found a good rock, and let it rip a couple of times... some of them came out pretty well!

2130 - Lights out.
