| Nov 13-14, 2004 - A Stay at Ocean Shores (Part 1 of 3) | ||
|
For no particular reason, I decided to spend a weekend at Ocean Shores. Normally, the beach resort is basically a ghost town in the Winter months, but on this weekend, the Department of Fish and Game opened up the Pacific Coast to Razor Clam harvesting for 2 days... so it was understandably packed! |

I didn't really have much time to plan, so I just threw some stuff into
backpacks, and headed on my way to the Coast. It was a decent enough day, for winter, anyway, and it didn't seem like it was going to get any worse, so I went for it, and headed to the Pacific Coast. Grays Harbor was settled shortly after Olympia, and Aberdeen, the largest town on the inlet, is only a few years younger, with its own rich history. On the North end of the inlet, a large spit exists, and on this spit lies Ocean Shores, right across the opening from Westport, the town on the Southern Spit. |

Passing through Aberdeen, I once again passed over the 'Big Iron Bridge',
only this time, I headed North, instead of South, to Westport. I had never been to Ocean Shores, which is why I chose to go that way. Just as I got off the bridge, I passed a truck hauling a load of crab traps, probably moving them to safe keeping for the winter. As I neared the Coast, the weather started to break up, just as the weather man said it would. |
