Golden Gate Bridge

<< BACK

The bridge everyone recognizes was completed in 1937, and has stood as SF's most recognizable feature ever since.  The main span extends 4200 feet, the second longest bridge span in the world... not bad for something built almost 70 years ago!  I've been there several times over the years, and took pictures... in any light condition, the bridge looks grand, and is definitely worth a visit.

Flying into San Francisco is a treat... if you set on the left  side of the plane, you usually get a good view...
There's more than a few places where you can go to get quite close to the bridge... the views make it worth it!

As you can see... the haze - er, smog - cooperated quite nicely!

Driving the bridge is an experience that one doesn't soon forget.

I guess if you're fighting rush hour traffic every day, it would lose its luster... there are times when a trip across the bridge is a bit crowded...

In the 90's, the Presidio was "Demilitarized", and made open to the public... a whole new set of views opened up...
Heading to Alcatraz, a great view of the bridge is available...

In the shadow of the eastern end of the bridge lies an Army fort that dates back to Civil War Times... the bridge was designed around it.
