Pictures of the Month for 2010
< Back
The Second Decade... That was fast!

Well... with a lot less free time, and less opportunity to just "head out to see what there is to see", its not as easy as it was to find places that will produce a "picture of the month"... That's not a complaint, though!  I really am living a dream -- and although the dream might not be as picturesque as things have been in the past, I wouldn't want to miss out on the dream for ANYTHING!

Some of you have said I was a month behind, but that's just because the picture is from the month before... I can't post a month's "best pic" until the month is over... :-)

January
   Bellevue Botanical Gardens
We went on a road trip to take in some Christmas lights on the last weekend for the Bellevue Botanical Gardens Parade of Lights display.

It was very impressive!  This scene in the picture is of a lake... not exactly the most 'Christmas' of scenes, but extremely impressive!

   Canadian Geese
We went to the park in our neighborhood, which is where these two Geese have decided to call home.

We bring bread and cracked corn for them, and while the little guy was coaxing them to come, I took this picture of them cruising across the lake.  It was a very calm, quiet day, and basically, the only ripples in the lake were the ones stemming from their wakes -- they were really moving out!

March
   Snowy Mt Washington
It hasn't snowed much this year - we've only gotten 2 1/2 inches, down from about 70 inches the last two years.  That, and the lack of snow even at the upper altitudes, has caused snow in the mountains to grab more attention than it has.

Heading home from work, I was treated to this interesting view of Mt Washington that was quite striking in its contrasts.  Its one of those scenes that really sends home the reminder that we live in a GREAT place!

   Poised for Flight
I went to the Pacific Science Center with the little guy, and one of his favorite displays was the "Butterfly House".

This butterfly had been sitting with its wings closed, which hid the bright colors, but just I was about to take a picture, it spread its wings and moved a bit to get closer to the edge.

A few seconds after I snapped the picture, it launched into flight.

A Drizzly Day at Rattlesnake Lake
We live fairly close to Rattlesnake Lake, so on days when we feel like 'getting out', but we don't want to go very far, we head over to the lake.  The little guy loves throwing rocks into the water, running along the shoreline, and exploring.

Living on the western slopes of the Cascades here in the Northwest, we get a lot of days where low clouds roll over the foothills, and that makes for some great scenery!

I'm really glad I live where I do!

  Seattle, Washington

Here's a place we live quite close to, but don't enjoy quite as much as we could.  Neither of us are "city folk", and we typically avoid ventures into the city.

But, when we're in town, sometimes we like to do a "from the distance" view, and it actually is a pretty impressive looking city... but then, I'm likely biased!  =]

Here, on a clear blue-sky day, Seattle shines with Mt Rainier on the horizon.

July
South Fork of the Snoqualmie River

What an awesome place to live!

About 5 minutes from where we live, the South Fork of the Snoqualmie River heads down into the upper regions of the valley that bears its name.

The little guy and I went down to the river to beat the heat and found a little spot that was surprisingly empty of people, and provided a great place to wade and, of course, throw rocks.

August
Franklin Falls, with I-90 over head

About 20 minutes up the road from us, a short out and back trail takes us to Franklin Falls, an 80-drop of clear, cold, alpine-fed water.

I-90 crosses overhead, but the only noise you hear are the falls, which also sends a cool breeze into the bowl created by the falls.
