Pictures of the Month for 2009
< Back
Year 10... It hardly seems possible!

Some months, especially with a toddler taking up any and all 'free' time, its tough to pick "the one" - especially when I haven't really done anything or went anywhere exciting... but I'll try and put the better pictures on this page.   It also doesn't help that the same toddler performed a few drop tests on the camera, which failed one of them... so most of the time, we're just carrying our cell phones... the cameras on Phones have come a long ways, that's for sure!

Some of you have said I was a month behind, but that's just because the picture is from the month before... I can't post a month's "best pic" until the month is over... :-)

January
   Snow is in the air!

It was snowing at our house... not a lot, but enough for me to break out the camera.  =]

On the slopes heading up to Rattlesnake Ridge, the snow was coming down considerably harder, and it seemed to wash out the view of the trees in the background.

February
   Morning at the Falls

On a Saturday Morning, my men's group went for a walk together... our intent was to walk out to a little utilized overlook of Snoqualmie Falls, which worked out to a 4 mile walk or so.

When we got there, we were fogged in, and didn't see the Falls at all.

On our way out, we decided to swing by another trail that took us close to the base of the falls, and we were treated to this view.  Not bad for a cell phone, I think, anyway.

All part of His plan.

March
   Sunbreak

The day after a snowstorm, we had a Sunbreak... the sun comes out so rarely, it seems, that we our own quasi-official weather term to describe it when it happens.  =]

The bright blue spot in the sky really contrasted with the rest of the gray sky, and the dark shadows down at ground level

April
   Hasn't happened yet.  =]

They came late, but when they came, it was pretty awesome!

We took a drive up to Skagit Valley to check out the roses with friends of ours... we were treated to some pretty impressive views!

May
   The Snail Cloud

The little guy and I took a walk at Rattlesnake Lake, and I noticed this interesting cloud... it reminded me of a snail.

I think its interesting that clouds sometimes 'look' like something, and then when you see them later in a picture, it doesn't look like what you thought it did.

This time though, it still sort of looks like a snail.  Not as much as when I saw it, but I can see where I got it from.  =)

June
   A very nice sunset

I was driving down to Issaquah to pick up some meds for my eye when I was treated to this VERY nice sunset.

All's I had was my phone, but I thought it did a very decent job of capturing the moment.

Its times like this that I really enjoy... having the opportunity to be in the right place, at the right time.  10 minutes earlier or later, it didn't look like this at all!

July
   At the Pass

The Cascade Mountains are pretty impressive, and even though I live in their foothills, I don't think I'll ever grow tired of marveling at them.

The little town of Summit is nestled at the crest of Snoqualmie Pass, literally surrounded by rugged peaks and steeply sloped formations that really give you a chance to step back and wonder at the wonder of God's Creation.

August
   A little fawn

OK... so this one wins because its cute!  =]

A doe brought out her fawn, and they rummaged through our yards looking for stuff to much on.  It was fun watching the little guy tramp around and discover all the odd things that we humans put out for their enjoyment.

September

   Sunset at Kalaloch

During our Annual end of the Summer outing, we were treated to a very nice sunset - several of them, actually.

There's just something about a peaceful sunset that really puts a nice exclamation point on a great day...

October

   Sunrise over the Cascades

Driving in to work, I'm treated to a very nice view of the Cascades... and with the changing time of the Sunrise and the varying weather, its different almost every day.

For most of the month, the sun has been rising about the time I'm heading in to work, and on the days when the weather is clear, the view is pretty amazing.. like it was on this day!

 November

   Snapshot of the PNW

Most folks think I'm a bit 'off', but I really like the weather here in the Northwest.

I know there's lots of jokes about how much it rains here, and the funny part about that is that they're pretty much right on... it DOES rain a lot.  But I like it that way.  I'd rather it be overcast and drizzly for a week, then "wall to wall" blue skies, hot and sunny for the same stretch of time.

Here, a steady drizzle is falling, and some low clouds are scraping along the foothills of Mt Si... I sat in the parking lot of my church for 15-20 minutes watching it unfold... what a great place to live!

 December

A rare view of a December Sunset

The winters here in the Northwest pretty much mean one thing: rain.

Its typically drizzly, overcast and cloudy, and the light, which never seems to be as bright as it does in other places, just fades away into a deepening gray, and suddenly, its night.

But every so often, the weather clears, and you are treated to the opportunity to watch the sun set

One of the most impressive things about this picture, to me anyway, is that I took it with my phone... the Touch Pro 2 has a pretty good camera!
