Pictures of the Month for 2003 |
< Back
I guess it goes without saying
that I take a lot of pictures. Either I get lucky, or
the sheer volume dictates that a COUPLE come out nice, every so often
one will stand out from
the others... I'll try to put those here.
Some of you have said I was a month behind, but that's just because the picture
is from the month before... I don't know what THIS month's best pic will be...
I might not have taken it yet!

Cloudy, but still in the shadow |
Only a hint of Mt Rainier's foothills can be seen in this picture, but you still
can get a good idea of the commanding presence the Mountain has on the city's skyline.

'Tis the Season |
I've taken literally HUNDREDS of pictures of the Space Needle, but I have to say...
the sight of the Needle above the Seattle Center when its lit up for Christmas is
quite stunning!

Awesome Skyline |
I've lived in the Seattle area for about 4 years now, and I've gone to countless
T-Birds games in that time... but it wasn't until this month that I discovered this
view... Its very impressive, and only just up Queen Anne Hill from the Key, home
of the T-Birds. Its quite impressive!

Our Neighbor |
Right at the end of August, Mars and Earth passed each other at a distance of about
55 million miles. That sounds far, but it was the closest the two planets
had passed in more than 30 million years... It'll happen again, oddly enough, in
about another 50 years or so, but this time it'll only be 57 million miles... who
knows? Maybe I'll be around to see it!

An Ear for the Sunset |
During Freedom Fest, which is a Christian outdoor music festival in Snohomish, WA,
we were treated to an awesome sunset. The festival was held in the middle
of a corn field, so I took a short walk out to the corn during a break in the music,
and took a picture... the contrast, I think, was quite remarkable!

Turn Point Lighthouse |
The San Juan Islands are situated near the primary route for shipping from the Pacific
to the ports of Seattle, Tacoma, and Olympia. The route generally follows
the deepest segments of the Puget Sound. At this location, the shipping lane
takes a sharp turn around a point aptly named "Turn Point"... to mark the way, Turn
Point Lighthouse braves the elements.

The Waterfront |
The Percival's Landing Area of Olympia is a nice place to take a walk to kill some
time and clear the mind... especially when its relatively sunny, and there's not
a lot of wind.

Multnomah Falls |
Believe it or not, but these falls are actually higher than Niagara... but they
have FAR less water spilling over them! Multnomah Falls welcomes visitors into the
Columbia River Gorge along the Historic Columbia River Highway, which is now known
as US 30

A Nice Commute |
Driving 60+ miles ONE WAY to get to work is, as you can imagine, somewhat of a bore
at times... but every so often, you're treated to a scene like this, and its almost
worth it.

The Science Center |
The 'lake' of the Science Center tries to capture the essence of the Northwest with
its artwork of Orca fins protruding out of the water. With the fountain, and folks
playing with the water guns in the background, it made for a good picture, I thought.

Coming in for a Landing |
In February, I went to a conference in San Francisco. This picture was taken out
of the window as the plane was landing.

Mt Si |
Two things are weird about this JANUARY picture... Blue sky, and no snow. Its not
often you get a Sunny day in the winter here in the Northwest... when you do get
one, you take advantage of it!
