Pictures of the Month for 2001 |
< Back
I got a new camera for the new year... so maybe the quality will go up. I
noticed that over the last year, I've transitioned to taking picture with the digitial
camera, now... my "film" camera, while being perfectly fine, rarely gets used, now.
Times change quickly, eh?
So, the Pic of the Month enters its second year... Every month, I take more pictures
than the month before, it seems, so there will be a bigger crop to pick from.
Stick around... some of these might be pretty good - I get lucky every so often.

Nubble Lights |
York Light is known to the locals by its 'real' name... Nubble Light, derived from
the small island it sits on.
Every Christmas, the keepers line the light station with rope lights, in a special
celebration of the Advent.
For many years... Christmas began with my Granfather taking me here to view the
lighthouse decorated for the season.

Salmon Run |
These salmon are returning to where they were spawned, pulled by the drive to ensure
thier children will continue thier legacy.
Its amazing how many fish congregate in one location, each looking for a place to
dig a shallow pit to use as a nest of sorts for eggs, which will be burried in pebbles
in almost literally the last gasp of life for the parents... its the end of an incredible
journey.

New England Color |
This is the Saco River, in October. NOTHING beats New England, in my opinion,
when it comes to the colors you get in fall... everywhere you look, vibrant colors
greet you... its a GREAT kick off for the coming winter, that's for sure!

The Cascades |
Along US 2, heading into the Cascades, is a fish hatchery... the view from the hatchery
is AMAZING! I LOVE living here!

Blue Angels |
The Blue Angels came to town for the annual "Seafair" event, which, by the way,
is where the sport of Hydroboat racing was born. Anyway, the Blue Angels put on a GREAT show... it was FANTASTIC!

Pemaquid Light Station |
This lighthouse is one of the earliest lighthouses in Maine.
The red fog building dates back to the 1700's, and is built on the original footings
for the first light tower installed on the site.
An early light was fixed on the top of the 'chimney' structure on the building,
but since has been replaced by the current tower.

Vista House |
Apply named, this stop along "Old Highway 30" has to be the fanciest rest area buildings
I've ever seen! :-)
Its known as "The Gateway to the Gorge", and is a must-see when on a drive to, and
through, the Columbia River Gorge.

Alpine View |
Near the pass on US 20, a lake, colored green by the Schist that gets scraped away
by ice and glacial activity, beckoned me to take a picture...
Ever wonder why I like living here in the Northwest so much? THIS should give
you a reason!

OK... this might be "the best" because of WHAT the picture is of, rather than for
its artistic qualities... :-) No matter, BASEBALL is BACK!

Longview Skyline |
Before moving to the Puget Sound area, I lived in Rainier Oregon...
I still go down there every so often, and on one trip, I went up Clatskanie Hill
and stopped at one of the rest areas heading up the hill... and managed to catch
this scene of the town that still makes the most of the river, and the timber.

Blast from the Past |
Standing vigil over the entry to the Puget Sound, this gun once was part of the
forces protecting our waters from incursion by those who would do us harm... now,
its a reminder of simpler times, and a GREAT reason to head out and about... those
forts are now interesting places to explore!
