2010.08.29 - A trip back to the Watershed
< Back to Currently

After church, we went to the watershed information center... it'd been a while since we'd been there.

Water Drums
He mentions the water drums nearly every day... he really likes it there!

The reason for the watershed
After a lack of water helped lead to The Great Seattle Fire in 1889, the city of Seattle finally began the process to deliver ample water to the city. They build a dam on the Cedar River, and then build a wooden pipe to move the water behind the dam to Seattle.

The welcome center
The welcome center has several displays that explain the water cycle, and what the watershed means to the region and the city of Seattle.

Checking out a display
The little guy really enjoys checking out the displays. This one has a touch screen that lets you manage a simulation of the controls within the watershed to respond to several different weather situations.

Arrowheads
There has been a significant native population, and evidence of that can be found throughout the watershed area.

Showing how it works
Usually, we're the only one's here, but on this trip he got to show a couple of kids how to get the balls going, which they then enjoyed quite a bit!

Lots of water
Some of the facts shown in the watershed are pretty interesting!

Why did the turkey cross the road?
There's quite a few turkeys in the area... here a smaller one crosses the roadway leading out of the park.
