2010.08.20 - Butchart Gardens
< Back to Currently

As part of the BC leg of our trip, we visited Butchart Gardens. We'd been there before, but it's one of those places where you can visit again and again, and enjoy it all over again!

Butchart Gardens
The entry sign sets you up for the experience you're about to enjoy. There wasn't a very long line getting in, and parking was a breeze

Nice House!
Wouldn't it be awesome to live in a house like this?!?

The Big Pig
The little guy really liked 'the big pig'... 'Its not a wild board, daddy, its a big pig!'

Heading down the Trail
He was excited to see what we could see! He stopped a lot at first to smell the different kinds of flowers! =]

Not crowded
For the most part, the gardens weren't very crowded at all... it was nice.

Carpets of color
All along the pathways through the garden, the colors were amazing!

Interesting blends
In some areas, they had an interesting blend of differing flower types... they really went well together!

Incredible Details
Its always amazing to me when I see the incredible amount of detail in the flowers...

I have work to do!
When I compare this with my yard... ugh! =]

Stairway
There's a stairway to an overlook in the middle of the sunken garden.

Sunken Garden
Its hard to believe that the sunken garden is the result of a lime mine... its amazing!

The Fountain
The fountain is one of the more popular features in the park... and for good reason!

Interesting History
The park was, during the 'roaring 20's', a limestone mine. The wife of the owner of the mine turned the mined areas into something far more appealing than a big hole in the ground, to be sure!

Fountain
The fountain is powered by gravity, and a complicated valve structure... its pretty elaborate!

Nice Designs
At night, changing colored lights make for a very interesting display, but the display during the day is not much less stunning, if you ask me!

Mesmerizing
We stayed for a few minutes, then continued on...

Colorful
The flower-lined meadows were pretty impressive! We lingered, enjoying the scenery and the company, while the little guy looked for the various shaped rocks and other surprises available if you look for them... we had a great time!

One last thing
On the way out, we went through the plaza again, and the little guy apparently forgot to check how cold the water was, because he immediately went and checked. The verdict? 'Not that cold at all!'
