Lime Kiln
Lime Kiln State Park is the only state park in the US set up to be a whale watching park. A bank just off shore supports a large number of fish, and the whales swim very close to shore to fish, play, and often, sleep.

Information placard
This sign exlained what's going on, and what we could expect. It seems that when we were there, we had a 1 in 5 chance of seeing them, using past sighting histories... we got lucky!

Sorry Bruce, fish ARE food
The whales are there for the salmon that live in the Sound... the 3 resident pods don't bother with the harbor seals at all in the Sound, focusing instead on the abundant salmon.

Watching the whales
The little guy liked climbing on the rocks, something we weren't as happy as he was about.

Orca
We saw whales pretty much the whole time we were at the park.

A big one
Some of those guys are pretty big!

Nice view
This boat had a great view of them... that must have been an impressive sight.

A shady spot
We stopped on our way to the lighthouse to watch from a shady vantage point.

Large male
The large males have a very long dorsal fin... its pretty impressive

'There's One!'
The little guy really had a good time, once he figured out what we were pointing at...

We could hear them
When they blew out, you could hear the rush of air as well as see it.

Last looks
We could have sat there all day! =]

Checking out the whale
Back at the parking lot, the little guy wanted his picture next to the whale... he was pretty excited, and asked to come back here again... I'm sure we will!
