Just on the other side of the Pass, about a half-hour drive from where we live, is Lake Easton State Park. Since it was a hot, sunny day, we decided to head out for a drive, and check it out.

Heading into the Mountains
The drive up into the mountains is always one I enjoy...

The Cascades
The Cascades are relatively new, and the craggy peaks are pretty impressive

Up on the Pass
The pass looks a lot different with the ski slopes green with high mountain meadows...

Road work
The DOT is widening the roadway, working feverishly in the short high-mountain summer

Awesome views
I really don't think I'll ever get tired of the scenery in the Cascades... at least I hope I don't!

More roadwork
They're really doing a lot of work to try to get the road done quickly... they're thinking it'll take two seasons to complete everything they have to do.

Avalanche control
Another aspect of the maintenance is to reduce effects of avalanche, and keep rock falls from being so frequent.

Lake Easton State Park
Not far past the Pass, we arrived at Lake Easton State Park.

Playground
The park has a day use area, complete with a play ground. It was a very warm day, and there were a LOT of people who had the same idea we did!

Climbing High
The little guy loves to climb... and he's getting better at it!

He was really happy to have made it to the top!

He did this wall mostly on his own. I told him where to put his hands and feet, but he did it himself.

Lake Easton
Lake Easton's waters are largely snowmelt... and its quite COLD.

He waded into the water... not much deeper than he is in this picture. He didn't want to get his feet dirty, of all things.

ICE CREAM!
On the way home, we stopped to get ice cream... a good ending to a great day trip!
