2010.04.30 - A trip to the Pacific Science Center
< Back to Currently

Our in-home daycare lady needed to take a day off, so I took a day, and went to the Pacific Science Center with the little guy... we had FUN!

In the shadow of the Space Needle
The Pacific Science Center is literally in the shadow of the Space Needle... well, when the sun is out, anyway!

'woah... check THOSE out!'
He was pretty impressed even before we got in... the sound demonstration really got his attention!

Trying out the water pump
This screw pump was an early tool of irrigation

Moving the 2000 pound ball
forced upwards by water, this ball is pretty easy to move, as the little guy found out.

Playing with a water canon
We kept coming back to the water canons... he really liked them!

Watching the water
He quickly caught on to what he was supposed to do... and then had fun!

Flying over Mars
The film he's watching is a simulation of flying through a canyon on Mars... he really liked it.

The Rover
This is a full-scale model of the Rovers on Mars. The mast came up above my head -- they're bigger than I thought they were.

Into the Mars Habitat
He really had a good time checking out the oddly shaped room of the 'habitat'

building a power source
Well, he didn't build anything -- but the parts were there to build it.. he simply put all the parts back in the bin. 'Messy!'

Checking out the Dinos
The Dinosoaurs were pretty impressive. They move... sort of. He thought they were cool, so that's good!

'They're Hungry'
As I was wondering what to say if he asked about this, I guess he figured it out... =]

He's BIG!
He kept coming back to this guy, too... When I asked if he was scary, the answer was 'No... but he's BIG!'

Watching the video
He watched the video, then touched the other dino's to see the video for them, too... he figured it out on his own... smart kid.

Tic Tac Toe
A robotic machine was set up to play tic tac toe... it picked up the pieces and put them in position, then stacked them neatly after the game was over...

Astronaut Ice Cream
No trip to the Science Center is complete without the Astronaut Ice Cream!

Smaller water canons
Inside the center, we kept returning to the water canons...

Checking out the Naked Mole Rats
One of his favorite places was the naked mole rat habitat... they were interesting to watch!

Disgustingly Cute
The little guys were busy moving the packing material through the tunnels... it was interesting to watch them cooperate with each other.

The BIG bug!
When I sold him on the trip, I told him he would see a HUGE Bug... He was pretty impressed by it!

Pointing out the big butterflies
The big butterflies on display were a hit, too.

So much for 'no touching'
I'd just got done saying 'Be sure you don't Touch', to which he agreed.. then I went to point out a butterfly on a plant, and one landed on my finger... it was a big deal to him, and he kept holding out his finger to get one to land on him, too.

Watching them eat
He was fascinated by them eating.

'He's using a straw'
He asked what he was doing, and I said that he was drinking the juice of the orange... and he responded with 'He's using a straw... ' He's closer than he could have known!

Watching up close
He really liked watching up close... and he was good about not touching, which was great!

Amazing butterflies
The butterflies in the house are quite incredible!

Interesting colors
I really like coming to see them... they're very striking!

Resting
Its up in the air as to who enjoyed it more in there I was having at least as much fun as he was! =]

'Come on... Come on... its OK...'
I felt bad for him... he kept patiently trying to coax one to land on his finger... and on the way home, he kept asking if we could go back to have one land on him this time... Well, until we got on the Interstate, that is... he was out for a nap before we got out of Seattle!
