The Year in review, as it were
< Back

I started saving the pages on my site in 1997, mostly because I wanted to preserve the 'currently' section.  Back then, the "Picture Pages" were the focus of my site, but before too long, this section became both a means to keep people up to date, and post pictures... the Picture Pages area, sadly, hasn't been kept up to date very well... maybe 2010 will change that.  But wow... 13 years!  I started my site at the end of 1996, and the internet itself only went public in the summer of 1995, so this is a pretty 'old' website!

2010!  I think this every year, but I think it'll be curious to see what this year will hold. The little guy is getting more and more active and aware, and he's learning so much so quickly... that alone will make it an interesting and fun year, I think!

2010.08.19 - Heading to Sidney

2010.08.19 - English Camp
One of the only National Parks that has a foreign flag flying without a US flag in sight is located on San Juan Island, and its history is quite interesting.

2010.08.19 - English Camp

2010.08.18 - Lime Kiln State Park
Lime Kiln State Park is the only state park in the US set up to be a whale watching park.

2010.08.18 - Lime Kiln State Park

2010.08.18 - Lime Kiln Lighthouse
The first stop on our trip was the lighthouse at Lime Kiln Point.

2010.08.18 - Lime Kiln Lighthouse

2010.08.18 - On the Ferry
We went on a trip for a few days, and part of it took us to the San Juans... part of our 12 months of Christmas trips

2010.08.18 - On the Ferry

2010.08.17 - Slowly Receeding, but still high
All the rain we got in June made the lake very high. July and August have been much drier, but the lake is still higher than average...

2010.08.17 - Slowly Receeding, but still high

2010.08.14 - Mt Si Festival Parade
The little guy and I went to a parade, which was part of the Festival at Mt Si, North Bend's summer festival.

2010.08.14 - Mt Si Festival Parade

2010.07.24 - Resting with mom
Watching Veggie Tales with mom is FUN!

2010.07.24 - Resting with mom

The little guy got in some digging on the beach... something he's been asking to do for a while

2010.07.18 - Digging on the beach

2010.08.16 - Franklin Falls
We finally managed to schedule a week off from work! We kicked it off with a hike the little guy could enjoy with us... a short jaunt up to Franklin Falls.

2010.08.16 - Franklin Falls

2010.08.15 - An evening walk to the park
The little guy wanted to head out to the park, but he didn't want to go in the bright sun, so we waited for it to set behind the ridge, and went for a walk

2010.08.15 - An evening walk to the park

2010.08.13 - Boxleys
Our plans fell apart, but we had a babysitter lined up, so we went out to a nice dinner at Boxleys, North Bend's very own Live Jazz Restaurant. Great food, great entertainment, very decent prices... it was a total win!

2010.08.13 - Boxleys

2010.08.12 - Marine Layer
The annual fall marine layer period is upon us... a sure sign that summer is coming to an end (finally!). It makes for cooler days, and more interesting weather, I think anyway.

2010.08.12 - Marine Layer

2010.08.03 - Lightening!
We had a rare lightening storm... always an exciting time!

2010.08.03 - Lightening!

2010.07.26 - Viewing Seattle from Emeral Bay
It was a good day for a cruise around the bay...

2010.07.26 - Viewing Seattle from Emeral Bay

2010.07.26 - Snoqualmie Falls
I enjoy the opportunity to play tour guide. Since a friend from my Army days was in town, I showed him a couple of the local attractions...

2010.07.26 - Snoqualmie Falls

2010.08.15 - An afternoon with the Bosox
A friend of mine from the Army was at a conference in Seattle, and we took the time to meet up and catch up a bit on old times... and since we're both from New England and the Red Sox were in town, it seemed like the thing to do!

2010.08.15 - An afternoon with the Bosox

2010.07.24 - The Lake is finally dropping
There are some stumps showing... a clear sign that the lake is returning to normal.

2010.07.24 - The Lake is finally dropping

2010.07.17 - The 7th Month of Christmas Trip - Washington Coast
Our 7th Month of Christmas Trips took us to the Washington Coast. We decided to head down to the Columbia River area, to check out the coast there, and to visit with family and friends while there.

2010.07.17 - The 7th Month of Christmas Trip - Washington Coast

2010.07.10 - Day trip to Lake Easton
Just on the other side of the Pass, about a half-hour drive from where we live, is Lake Easton State Park. Since it was a hot, sunny day, we decided to head out for a drive, and check it out.

2010.07.10 - Day trip to Lake Easton

2010.07.05 - A walk out on the Ironhorse
We live in a pretty cool place. One of the many state parks we live near is the Ironhorse State park, which actually is a very large park spanning a huge distance. Once the railway line known as the Milwaukee Road, the remaining grade is now a state park known as the Iron Horse Trail. It extends through the Cascades and is now an 80+ mile hiking and mountain bike trail.

2010.07.05 - A walk out on the Ironhorse

2010.07.03 - Back to the watershed
The 'Water drum park', as he calls it, is very likely his favorite place to go... we go there at least once a week, and sometimes more. He has a good time, and the workers there really like his excitement... so we go there a lot.

2010.07.03 - Back to the watershed

2010.07.02 - Ongoing Construction
They're expanding the sewer line in North Bend, expanding it into a recently annexed section, and nearly doubling the size of the line. Its part of the expansion plan for the city, which includes doubling the size of the population by 2020.

2010.07.02 - Ongoing Construction

2010.06.27 - Early Morning one quiet Sunday
I got to church early to make sure the slides were ready at church... for the summer, the worship teams come in early to practice before the service rather than take up another weekday evening to do it... I showed up early, but I guess it was a bit TOO early.

2010.06.27 - Early Morning one quiet Sunday

2010.07.04 - A Family Fourth
We went down to Grays Harbor Country to be with family on the Fourth... a great tradition!

2010.07.04 - A Family Fourth

2010.06.24 - High water

2010.06.23 - Out for a spin with Flame
The Shadow Lady was picking up the little guy early, which meant I didn't have to, so I took the Jeep out for the trip in to work...

2010.06.23 - Out for a spin with Flame

2010.06.18 - At a park
We went to the elementary school in town, and played in the park... fun times!

2010.06.18 - At a park

2010.06.13 - An Unwelcome Guest
We had a visitor set up shop in our shed... No stings, but not too cool!

2010.06.13 - An Unwelcome Guest

2010.06.12 - The 6th Month of Christmas - Seattle
Our 6th XMas trip took us to Seattle... which is close to home, but we still had a good time of it!

2010.06.12 - The 6th Month of Christmas - Seattle

2010.06.06 - High water at the Drums
The little guy and I went back to the water drums again. He was hoping to play on the stumps, but thankfully I warned him that they'd probably be under water. The water is even deeper than it was the last time.

2010.06.06 - High water at the Drums

2010.06.05 - At the park
The little guy and I went for a short walk to go feed the ducks, and play at the park for a bit. He didn't like the bright sunlight (neither did I, actually), but we did both manage to have a good time.

2010.06.05 - At the park

2010.06.04 - Kidz Bounce
The little guy got invited to a birthday party at Kidz Bounce again -- he's been there quite a bit for only being 2! As usual, all the kids who went had a GREAT time!

2010.06.04 - Kidz Bounce

2010.06.02 - Summer Kickoff
We had our Summer Marketing Kickoff today at work. Each quarter, we roll out a new campaign and most of the time, new phones. This quarter's big announcement is the MyTouch Slide... finally a new Android Slider.

2010.06.02 - Summer Kickoff

2010.06.01 - Rising water levels
The little guy wanted to head out to see the drums agian... he really likes that place! While there, I noticed the lake's level is getting pretty high. I guess all the rain we've been getting is adding up.

2010.06.01 - Rising water levels

2010.05.31 - With Family on Memorial Day
We went down to Monte for Memorial Day... we don't make it over to see family as much as we should, so I was particularly glad to have the opportunity to go... it'd been way too long!

2010.05.31 - With Family on Memorial Day

2010.05.23 - The 5th Month of Christmas - Grand Coulee Dam trip
Our 5th month of Christmas trips was to the Grand Coulee Dam.. along the way, we stopped a few times to let the little guy shake his legs out, and we stopped at a few places to see... mostly, though, we realized that this was a place that we WOULD be coming back to!

2010.05.23 - The 5th Month of Christmas - Grand Coulee Dam trip

2010.05.21 - A Friday Afternoon at the Watershed
Both of us had the afternoon off, so we picked up the little guy early, and asked him where he wanted all of us to go... he picked the Water Drums... =]

2010.05.21 - A Friday Afternoon at the Watershed

2010.05.09 - My Mother's Day gift...
The Shadow Lady had been asking for a 'victory garden', so for Mother's Day, I decided to put one in.

2010.05.09 - My Mother's Day gift...

2010.05.15 - Back at the Lake
Its not very often we have the opportunity to go see the drums three Saturdays in a row... so we didn't pass up on the opportunity! This is also the first opportunity I had to really test out the camera in my new phone, the CliQ XT.

2010.05.15 - Back at the Lake

2010.05.08 - Back at the watershed
We went back to the watershed, only this time, it was a much sunnier day. We went down to the shoreline, and played on the 'Tunnel Stump'... it was a fun morning!

2010.05.08 - Back at the watershed

2010.05.02 - A drive to pick up a Motorcycle
One of my wife's coworkers had a bike he needed moved to North Bend, so I offered to drive to his place and move it for him... I took the little guy along with me, to give mom a break, and let her get some work done.

2010.05.02 - A drive to pick up a Motorcycle

2010.05.01 - Early Morning Water Drums
We live right down the road from the Cedar River Watershed, which is where Seattle gets most of its water from. They have an information center set up, and outside, they have a water drum garden... the little guy really likes it there!

2010.05.01 - Early Morning Water Drums

2010.04.30 - A trip to the Pacific Science Center
Our in-home daycare lady needed to take a day off, so I took a day, and went to the Pacific Science Center with the little guy... we had FUN!

2010.04.30 - A trip to the Pacific Science Center

2010.04.27 - Rainbow in North Bend
We were treated with a rainbow in North Bend... I was on my way to my Men's Small Group meeting, and was glad that the timing worked out!

2010.04.27 - Rainbow in North Bend

2010.04.27 - Fire Drill
Apparently, a test went badly, and it triggered a fire alarm in our building. I'm on the safety team where I work, and I'd likely have gotten wind of a planned event, so this was a fun opportunity to enjoy a random event.

2010.04.27 - Fire Drill

2010.04.25 - The 4th Month of Xmas
We continued our '12 Months of Christmas' trip series by heading to... Olympia. Not real exciting of a location, but its where the calendar I used sent us.

2010.04.25 - The 4th Month of Xmas

2010.04.24 - Back to Back Bouncing
The next day after one birthday, another birthday party at the same place, with another friend from my church. They didn't plan it, it just worked out that way.

2010.04.24 - Back to Back Bouncing

2010.04.23 - A trip to Kid Bounce
A friend of mine's daughter had a birthday, and they held it at Kid Bounce, a local place that's a huge hit among the younger (and not so younger) folks in the area...

2010.04.23 - A trip to Kid Bounce

2010.04.23 - Flowers in the yard
Spring is here! The tree in our yard has blossomed, and this year, the tree seems to have more blossoms on it... guess it liked the 'less harsh' winter that we've had.

2010.04.23 - Flowers in the yard

2010.04.11 - Up in the Pass
So, we got the little guy a sled this year, hoping it'd snow like it did the last couple of years, and we'd be able to play with it. Only it didn't snow. He'd been asking about it all year, so finally we took a jaunt up to the Pass to let him use it at least once.

2010.04.11 - Up in the Pass

2010.04.05 - Around the Northwest with my Mom and Niece
My Mom came over to the PNW from Maine, and my Niece came with her... we had a great time visiting, and I had fun showing off some of the Northwest to them!

2010.04.05 - Around the Northwest with my Mom and Niece

2010.04.03 - Playing host for family is fun!
My mom and niece came over from Maine for a week-long visit. My niece had never been here, and the last time my mom came, the little guy was only a few weeks old, so it'd been a while.

2010.04.03 - Playing host for family is fun!

2010.03.31 - Snow in the Mountains
It snowed... but not down where we live. It did come a good ways down the slopes of the ridge, though, and I managed to grab some pictures before the rain took it away... sure has been a sparse winter!

2010.03.31 - Snow in the Mountains

2010.03.20 - Out at Boxleys
Auntie A gave us a treat, and we managed to get out on a date night... so we went to Boxley's, in North Bend... we had a GREAT time!

2010.03.20 - Out at Boxleys

2010.03.20 - An early trip to Skagit County
Our third trip in the '12 Months of Christmas Trips' took us to Skagit County. It was a bit early for the Tulips, but we knew the Daffy's would be out (they're usually on the decline by the time the tulips really kick in) and I'd found some interesting things to do that we hadn't done before, and had a great time exploring!

2010.03.20 - An early trip to Skagit County

2010.03.08 - The snow is falling
I went to get a pop, and noticed a GREAT view outside! It's Snowing!

2010.03.08 - The snow is falling

2010.03.08 - A trip to The Mountain
We packed up our snow shoes and the little guy's sled, and headed for The Mountain, to see if there was any snow we could take a walk on... there wasn't, but we had a good time, anyway!

2010.03.08 - A trip to The Mountain

2010.02.28 - Fun at the Park
We took a walk to the park to feed the ducks and geese, which have returned. This year, one duck never left... it just braved the week or so of winter we had back in November, and enjoyed a nice, relaxing winter with the lake all to himself.

2010.02.28 - Fun at the Park

2010.02.20 - First bonfire of the year
We have a pile of debris to get rid of in our yard, so we invited The Shadow Lady's family over for some early spring salmon, and s'mores, and had some fun with it.

2010.02.20 - First bonfire of the year

2010.02.13 - The Second Month of Christmas - Peace Arch Park
The calendar I sued to pick the 12 Months of Christmas Trips was a picture of the Peace Arch... so that's where we were of to. It was a bit damp, but the weather held out just enough for us to have fun anyway... we ended up having a lot of fun -- and our worries of huge crowds (it was the same weekend as the opening of the 2010 Olympics) didn't pan out at all.

2010.02.13 - The Second Month of Christmas - Peace Arch Park

2010.02.07 - A Super Sunday with Friends
Some of the guys in our Men's Study came up with a plan to watch the 'big game' together. Not only that, we decided to give our wives a a break if they wanted, and take the kids with us, even if they decided to do something else.

2010.02.07 - A Super Sunday with Friends

2010.01.30 - The 1st of the 12 Months of Christmas trips
For Christmas this year, I tried to think of a gift that we all could enjoy... and decided to plan 12 trips, one for each month, around where we lived and I decided that a good place to help me pick them would be a calendar of Washington Scenery. My plan was to go to the location that was depicted in that month's calendar image. January's picture was from Gig Harbor.

2010.01.30 - The 1st of the 12 Months of Christmas trips

2010.01.23 - The first DDH of the Decade
We had the first Double Deck Hearts game of the decade. A new decade, new stats! They've been playing for a long time - more than 20 years, while I joined the list about 11 years ago. I was the big loser last decade, losing about $10.60.

2010.01.23 - The first DDH of the Decade

2010.01.23 - Drive up to the Pass
I've been missing the snow, so since our plans fell apart for the day, we decided to take a quick drive up to the pass. I was hoping to pull the little guy around on his sled, because he hasn't been able to use it at all this year.

2010.01.23 - Drive up to the Pass

2010.01.18 - Winter Open House
We're having our winter kick-off at T-Mobile, and Marketing invites us all down to an 'open house' to get a look at the new phones (Yay for the MyTouch Fender!), and catch up on what we're offering, so that when folks ask us... we'll know.

2010.01.18 - Winter Open House

2010.01.13 - Updating my Touch Pro 2 to Windows Mobile 6.5
HTC, for some reason, moved up T-Mobile's Windows Mobile 6.5 update, which was due to be released on the 20th, to their website on the 13th, a week early. It was only up for a short time, but a friend of mine let me know it was up, so I downloaded it and installed it.

2010.01.13 - Updating my Touch Pro 2 to Windows Mobile 6.5

2010.01.08 - An evening with the T-Birds
We went to a hockey game... our first 'date' in a very long time! It was a gift from the Shadow Lady, and even though the T-Birds didn't do so well, we had a great time! Auntie A watched the little guy for us, which was an awesome gift in itself!

2010.01.08 - An evening with the T-Birds

2010.01.02 - Going out with a flair!
Epiphany Sunday comes next week... but for the most part, the Christmas lights begin to fade after the New Years passes. We went to a light display in Bellevue, at the Bellevue Botanical Garden... to say its impressive isn't doing it justice!

2010.01.02 - Going out with a flair!
