The Blue Skies of Seattle
There's a saying (I think from a song) that the skies are never as blue as they are in Seattle. I think that's because they're not blue very often, so when they are, they REALLY look blue! This was one of those days

The 'West Gate'
The family we went with like this gate, and since we didn't have a preference, that's where we went. It seemed to be less crowded than the main entrance.

Penguins
Our first stop was at the penguin display. I was pretty impressed (the whole day, actually), because he identified the animals he was seeing, for the most part. He has several books that have pictures of a lot of the animals in them, including the penguins. This was a pretty active place... They kept cool by swimming int he water, which was temperature controlled by being forced through deep pipes in the ground. It made for a lot of activity!

Playing
They seemed to be playing, both with each other, and with the crowd watching them.

A surprise
The little guy was surprsed when one of them swam right in front of him while he was watching another group swimming deeper into the pool.

'Hi Penguin!'
When the penguin swam passed he'd try to say 'hi', and get its attention.

Making sure they know about the Penguins
After we left the penguins, the little guy made sure everyone knew all about what he thought of them! =)

Bear
Not far from the penguins was the bear exhibits. One of them was out in the open - the others were where we couldn't see them.

Munching on lunch
I couldn't tell what he was eating, but whatever it was, he seemed to think it was pretty good!

'Roar'
The little guy spent some time roaring at the Komono Dragon... that is, until it moved, then it was a bee-line back to dad. =)

Komono Dragon
Pretty impressive lizards!

Elephants
The elephants were off were we couldn't see them very well. The wind was blowing just right, and we caught wind of fresh 'zoo poo'... those two things combined to cause the elephant picture in his book to have the added note, 'they're yuk!'

Playing on the elephant
While the parents enjoyed the shade for a bit, the little ones climbed on a bronze statue of the littlest elephant (he's not so little) at the Zoo.

Just hanging around
The little guy thought this was funny. He was just hanging around, watching everyone walk by.

Ice Cream is yummy
Half way through our route, we took an ice cream break. The little guy helped me with mine for a bit...

'Hi Lion!'
He said 'Hi' to just about everying and everyone at the zoo... including this statue.

Zebra Grazing
The zoo is home to several zebra, only this was the only one visible from the viewing stand.

Striking
The patterns on these animals are pretty impressive!

Ostrich
These birds are pretty impressively large!

Beating on the drum
Right towards the end, we stopped in the African Village for a bit... they had fun beating on the drum!

Pelicans
On the way out, we swung through the Pelican pen... Very weird, but still impressive, birds! In all, we had a GREAT time... and we all made plans to 'do this again soon'... and I'm sure we will.
