Ready to roll
He's ready to go! A lot of our walks start out this way... =) Taking this picture, I noticed that he's really filling that thing out, and we won't be able to use this very much longer. (sigh)

The Slide
The Hyatt Slide happened last November... you can still see the effects of it.

The Tunnel
As you got closer to the tunnel, you could feel the cool air rushing out of the door. A wind was pusing the air through on the other side, and it got cooled as it passed through the tube of rock... a natural air conditioner! It sure felt good!

Making sure I see it
'Look daddy!' The little guy made sure I could see the tunnel in front of us!

The last of the light
As the air cooled, the moisture trapped in it condensed out into a fog, which quickly blotted out the light from the entrance

Junction Panels
We only went in a third of a mile or so... enough to get away from the heat for a while. I took a snap of one of the bays along the wall, which are positioned every 10th mile or so.

Enjoying the dark
I gave the little guy a glo-stick, and he had a great time waving it around in the dark. The darkness didn't bother him at all, it seemed, so the glo-stick likely was a good idea.

Walking back
Heading back, he said he wanted to walk, so we let him... he had fun checking out the things he noticed with his light.

Back into the light
It wasn't long before we were heading back into the warmth of the outside... it was a very welcome break from the heat! Unfortunately, there were signs saying it was unsafe, and to be wary of falling rocks. Seems the Park Service consideres the tunnels a hazzard, and will likely lock them up before too long... the end of an era.
