2009.01.15 - An Old Wagon
< Back to Currently

While waiting on some parts for my computer from my old boss after work, I checked out an old wagon frame that was sitting out in front of a furniture store. This region was first settled in the tail end of the 'Oregon Trail' days... the land to the south was pretty much filled in, so folks started to move north once they'd made the treck West over the difficult trail.

Funny Sign
The sign read 'place don't feed the animals'... the shopping mall used to be on the edge of a much smaller town, but now the city has grown completely around it... not too many animals to feed these days!

Old cart
The old wagon made for a very interesting piece of art, and since I had some time, I took out my phone and snapped a few pictures

Wheel Hub
Its pretty incredible how technical these theings were...

Modern Technology
Still black with grease, the retaining ring and pin are missing, but otherwise enough of the hub was there to show how it all worked. Interesting stuff

Pins
Pins held the wagon together.. the decking was long gone, but the frame was still held together 'the old fashioned way'

Well Built
When you think of how old this thing was, you appreciate the workmanship that went into it.

Better Times?
I like checking out 'old stuff'... it brings up thoughts of 'way back' when things were just a bit slower.
