I had no idea back in 1997 that this would become as large a portion of my website that it's become... its pretty much replaced my Pics pages area, which used to be the main focus...

I'm working on a way to get this faster, so its easier for me to keep up.  I have some good ideas... I just need to actually DO them now!

The Festival of Lights Parade is one of those things you just can't miss every year. The town the Shadow Lady grew up in hosts the parade every year, and its part of the family tradition (I hope) lasts for a long, long time.

Heading in to work, the guys in my carpool noticed that the Snoqualmie River was icing over -- we all drive past or over the various forks of the river on the way to the park and ride -- so we stopped my the Falls to see what they looked like on the way in.

My company held a charity sale for employees, letting us buy items they'd pulled out of stores as scrap, and the money raised would go to helping the community. Its a pretty big deal, and I went down early in the morning to get in line... and still wasn't first.

After church, we went to the woodland Park Zoo with some friends. It was a great day for it - very warm, but not overly oppressive... and since it was cooler in Seattle than it was up in North Bend, it ended up being the place to be!

I moved to Windows Vista as soon as it came out. It wasn't a very smooth transition, and I ended up rolling back to XP. When Service Pack 1 came out, I went back to Vista, and while I ended up really liking Vita, my system has required a lot of reboots, and it ran slow. Today, I upgraded to Windows 7 - which is only a 'Release Candidate' right now.

Every year in April, Mt Vernon, a smallish town in the Skagit River Valley, becomes a tourist attraction. Many Thousands of people, often from a considerable distance away, head up to see the crops grow... which isn't all that weird, considering the crops they grow are Tulips... this year, we joined them, meeting friends of ours up there for lunch, and a trek through the flowers.

We had another round of snow this morning... The local news channels all said that the snow was going to stay above 2000 feet. Looking at the metrogram, I wasn't so sure... and the snow in the morning confirmed my raised eyebrows... the snow actually made it down to around 750 feet or so.

The word was that we'd be getting snow today, and they actually were correct. =] In the span of a couple of hours, we got about 6 new inches of snow. Once it slowed down, and the radar seemed to show that things were mostly over for a spell, we all donned some warmer clothes, and went outside to clean up the driveway... fun times!

Circuit City, once my favorite store, is going out of business. Not sure what happened... they just stopped trying, it seemed. For me, they drifted away from what they started with - a computer store that had a lot of components, gadgets, and the like to fix up your computer the way you wanted. When they switched away from catering to the 'do it yourselfers', they lost me.

For Valentine's Day, I decided to give The Shadow Lady the 'day off'. She went to spend the day with her sisters visiting her dad, and I had fun with the little guy. I've been working a lot lately, and she's really been a trooper... so for me it was a win-win -- I get to give her a much-needed break, and spend some time with the Tadpole... everyone wins! =] One of the things we did was go to the Cougar Mountain Zoo, in Issaquah.

While waiting on some parts for my computer from my old boss after work, I checked out an old wagon frame that was sitting out in front of a furniture store. This region was first settled in the tail end of the 'Oregon Trail' days... the land to the south was pretty much filled in, so folks started to move north once they'd made the treck West over the difficult trail.

We had a reunion meeting at our old church for the folks who'd been down on a trip to Guatemala as part of our old church's mission outreach. It was a good opportunity to visit with folks again, and find out about the folks in the village in Guatemala, so we happily went down and had a great time!

2009.01.11 - Flame gets an Oil Change
The embarrassing thing about my Jeep is that I couldn't drive it when it got cold and snowy -- it was literally frozen up. My Speedometer cable has been loose for a while, and apparently that, and some breather caps, are letting water get in the Transmission, and it froze up when it got cold, and I could not shift it out of gear, and the engine would just bog down instead of breaking it free. As soon as it got warm, I brought it down for an oil change

Our neighborhood is flooded still... pretty impressively, too.  Its very odd to see it like that, because we're a good ways up in the foothills.  This is only our second winter, but it sure didn't do this last year, and talking to the neighbors, its the worst its been since 1990... and maybe worse than that.

To add insult to injury... it snowed when we got home.  It stopped a bit later, but it was a bit of a surprise -- the snow line was supposedly going to stay above 3000 feet.

2009.01.07 - The snow turned to rain
Its been snowing a lot lately, and folks have been complaining... "I wish it would just rain" was the cry... well, today, they got their wish!!!  In 24 hours, we got 10 inches of rain... plus, the temperature shot up to about 45-50... the snow quickly melted, and the rivers filled in... the Snoqualmie overflowed its dikes, and flooded the downtown area of North Bend... half the town was shut down, and it was difficult to get around.

2009.01.02 - The Trash Truck Cometh
We've had a TON of snow recently, and it seems that whenever it was 'trash day' we'd get too much snow, and they'd skip a week... its been CRAZY!
