2008.12.01 - Setting up the Trees
< Back to Currently

It worked out that I was able to help set up the Christmas Trees at our church.  A local Christmas Tree Farm donated the trees to the church this year.  Several guys in the church showed up to cut and set up the tree.  A meeting I was in went long, and I got there just as the trucks were pulling out, but I helped carry the trees into the sanctuary.

They were about 16-18 feet tall... pretty sizable trees!

The trees were pretty easy to carry in, actually... they just fit through the doors with only a tiny bit of "urging"

The tree stands were in pretty good shape still.

One of the trees was about 2 feet taller than the other one, so we trimmed it by bringing a chain saw in and cutting off the trunk... not the sort of thing you'd typically see in a sanctuary, but it worked... =]

And before too long, we had the first tree up... the guys were saying that it took more than 9 hours to get them up last year... we were moving along pretty quickly according to that pace!

The second tree went up even faster, because we'd figured out the process with the first one.

Then, we went about fixing up the decorations, and making sure things were ready for the MOPS group, who were going to decorate the trees the next day.

we decided that the trees could use some bracing, to keep anyone from pulling them over.

We also put the stars on the top of the trees... it was interesting to figure out how to get the ladders up there.

The next Sunday, the decorations were all on, and they were looking pretty good...
I'm VERY glad I had the opportunity to help!
