After a blustery day, it got downright windy as the sun went
down, and the power was knocked out... it'd been raining
most of the night before, and off and on during the day, so
a tree must have gotten blown over and took down some lines
when it did.
I'd been planning on going to the store once I finished part
of the project I was working on (the infamous "logical break
point"), but since the power was out, I decided to head
out... we lose power out where we are more than they do in
town, so I figured I'd be OK.
It was wild to see the streetlights out on the way down the
hill...

In town, they were out of power too... I used my camera's
night vision setting, and got a few shots of trees down in
town, but on the radio, they were saying the whole area was
out, because a transfer station had a tree fall into it.
QFC was closed, but Safeway, after the week long power
outage, bought a generator, and they were up and running...
they had the only light in town. I managed to catch a
lightening flash when I took the picture, which was pretty
cool... that doesn't happen too often up this way.

Inside, only the emergency lights were on... the frozen food
isles were blocked off -- they didn't want people opening
the freezers and letting out the cold air.
The refrigerated food had warmed up too much, so they were
pulling it off the shelves... "We have insurance for that",
the manager let me know after I took the picture.
I drove back through town, to try and get some pictures of
the darkened streets, but as I was entering the downtown
area, the power came back on, and things lit up... when I
got home, we had power there, too.
So, thus, the "Great Power Outage of 2008" faded into
memory.
