2008.05.26 - Memorial Day with the Family

We went down to Grays Harbor County to spend Memorial Day with the family... For us, its one of those family traditions that everyone looks forward to every year, and that makes family... well, family!

The drive down was pretty uneventful.. not much traffic at all, which we were happy about!  We stopped by one a friend of the Shadow Lady's, and visited with them.  I'd met them briefly before, and it was good to see them again and get to know them.

I took some pictures driving around Aberdeen for the "Locations" section, and we noticed that its a bit run down, but the new sidewalks, provided by Maria Cantwell and Christine Gregoire as a stimulus package, looked great!

We stopped by The Shadow Lady's Grandfather's gravesite.  He was a veteran of WW2, and we paid our respects, and made sure everything was clean and the flag was set propertly.

After that, we went to the bridge overlooking the freeway near Grandma's house, and waved flags... we brought some of the little guy's cousins (with qualifiers of some sort, but "Cousin" is in there someplace).

Our 'goal' was 105 honks, to beat out last year's mark... we ended up with 125 by the time we left... =]  It was a lot of fun, and even the little guy was enjoying it!

Back at Grandma's, everyone was busy getting all the food ready... its always an impressive spread!

It was a gray day (fitting for Grays Harbor), but there wasn't any rain, and we enjoyed everyone's company!

After the 'mandatory' baseball game (her family takes that game VERY seriously, too!), the kids tested themselves against a speed gun to see how fast they ran... 13 miles an hour was the fastest.

Seeing the newest members of the tribe was a lot of fun, also!

I missed the baseball game loading up a U-Haul that the Shadow Lady and I rented.

We brought up a Freezer that Grandma didn't want anymore, and some furniture for The Shadow Lady's parents... they had some stuff in storage they didn't want to be without anymore!

It was our Mother's Day gift to them... a bit late, but that's OK.

Traffic on the way back was terrible!    Folks have 3 days to "get away" and 1 day to come back... Memorial Day and Labor Day both spawn "the mother of all traffic jams" every year.... this time, we even got stuck behind an Amish wagon!  =]
