On the way home from church, the Shadow Lady and I were
enjoying the scenery, so since the Tadpole was sleeping
soundly in the car, we decided to drive on up to the
Pass, to see what scenery we could enjoy...
Yeah, she's pretty cool about stuff like that... its on the
huge, long, and growing list of reasons why I'm in love with
her!
In the variable speed zone, the WSDOT had reduced the speed
to 65 (70 is normal)... bare and wet, but with possible icy
patches was what the radio message said.
I like outcroppings of rocks along the side of the road
anyway... but they're especially nice to check out when
there's icicles hanging from them!
As if on cue, a cloud was drifting over the roadway as we
got up to the pass... VERY nice!
We sure weren't skunked on the scenery!
As we got close to the exit to Summit, which was our
turnaround point, we noticed clouds spilling over the ridge
and down along the tops of the trees and into the valley...
The exit to the small town in the Pass looked COLD, that's
for sure!
The ski lodges are patiently waiting for enough snow to
open... they had a sign up that said "Absolutely no
snowboarders or skiers are allowed on the property"... I
guess some folks aren't as patient sometimes, and are
willing to hike up to the deeper snow.
There were quite a few people at the Family Pancake House...
have I mentioned I like it there? Today, though, we
just drove through the parking lot, and used it to turn
around in...

As we were heading toward the Exit, the Shadow Lady
suggested we take "the back way", which is a forest service
road, down from the Pass...
I jumped at the opportunity... its slower, but I REALLY like
the drive!
when we came out of the trees for the "big switchback"... we
were treated to a great view of the mountains...
We found another spot where the clouds were wafting over the
ridge, and down along the tree tops into the valley... a
silent river of clouds.. what a great scene!
The Sun filtered through the trees, which were shedding a
bit of their snow in the slight breeze... it was a very
memorable drive, to be sure!
Nothing like a great drive to remind you of "over the river
and through the woods, eh?
As we made our way down, the snow got a bit more scarce, but
the scenery remained just as enjoyable, that's for sure!
We started coming out of the snowy area right as we were
coming to the on-ramp back onto the highway... what a nice
drive it had been!
And people ask still me why I'm such a fan of the "Sunday
Drive"...
