The Shadow Lady and I went to the last of the series of Childbirth Classes... so now we're certified to have a baby... :-)

This class dealt with washing the little one, a short slideshow of the various reflexes, and packing the little feller into a car seat.

The slideshow showed various reflexes that we can expect, and should look for... grasp, rooting, startle, stepping... there's quite a few.

In several places around the room, placards gave us sets of advice, such as "when to call your healthcare provider"... there were take-home fliers, as well.

Some folks brought in treats to go with jams that the instructor made... GREAT Jam!  My favorite was the blueberry -- big surprise, eh?  :-)

I volunteered for the "bath" demonstration...

during the demo, she showed us what looked like a vegetable brush, and said we'd likely use something like this on his head, if he had dandruff... seemed pretty harsh, but she said it wouldn't be.

I basically drowned the doll rinsing off the hair... "He won't remember it", she counseled.  I'll be more careful, anyway.

The shampoo felt oily and sticky... not at all like what I expected.

Then, it was on to the car seats.

She showed us the adjustments and positioning of the straps, and how to adjust the seat as the baby grows so that the straps hit at the right angle.

Its a more complicated process than I thought!

The Shadow Lady and I managed it well enough -- although, I'm sure its going to be a bit more difficult when its not a doll, but a squirmy little one not really wanting to sit in the seat to begin with.  :-)

In the next couple of weeks - maybe sooner rather than later - we'll be doing that for real!
