2007.10.05 - A little detour on the way home

I was driving home from a client site, listening to the radio.  They mentioned that there had been snow above 4500 feet, and I'd seen hints of it on the higher slopes, through the low clouds...

So, since it was around lunchtime anyway, and traffic was light, and I didn't have a lot of stuff pressing down on me, I drove on by my exit, and continued on up the highway - Snoqualmie Pass is only about 20 miles or so past North Bend, so there wasn't that far to go.

The clouds got REALLY low as I continued up.

I like how the trees fade away in the fringe area...

When I got up there, I noticed the lightly colored upper slopes through the clouds, and the colors of fall... it was quite nice!

There were some sun breaks, which made for some great viewing!

It was right at 40 degrees up there... 6 degrees cooler than it was in North Bend...  Fall was a bit farther along up here, I noticed.

After a short while, the clouds parted, and I got a full view of the fresh snow... it was pretty nice!
The high mountain meadows were bright with color... fall was definitely in the air.

The scene was so incredible, it almost looked fake!

I watched the fog roll up the hillside, endlessly and silently changing the view.

I could have watched it all day!

I drove back down towards North Bend, very happy that I'd made the trek up there, but it would have been nicer if I could have had the Shadow Lady with me.

Just as I was getting to the exit before mine (or the one past, if you're heading from Seattle), I got a full view of the slope that had prompted me to make the drive... the snowy trees, with wispy fog, was very nice.

You know, it looks real cold up there!
