2006.09.24 - Seahawks routs the Giants
< Back to Currently

New York's Football Giants came to town, and entered Qwest Field after having accused the Seahawks of pumping in augmented sound.  OK, maybe it wasn't them, but we, collectively the 12th man, didn't care... we worked hard to make them pay for their insolence!  It was a GREAT game, and Les, a friend from work, and I had a GREAT time... that's what its all about!

It couldn't have been a nicer day!  It was Sunny, which isn't really my thing, but it wasn't hot at all...

Last year, the Seahawks beat the Giants through missed field goals and penalties, largely "False Start" penalties, which earned Qwest Field it's reputation of having the loudest fans in football...

I have season tickets up in the nose bleed section because that's where I like to view the game from... a few rows in front of me, John, another coworker, has his seats, which he picked for the same reason...

For some reason, they played both the Canadian and US National Anthems... The last I knew, the Giants were from New York, which isn't in Canada...

The Hawk flew out, leading the Seahawks onto the field...

Its always as awesome as it was the first time I saw it!

There was quite a bit of fanfare greeting the announcement of the players...

The Pike Place Fish Market guys where the spokesmen for the 12th Man...

We had won the toss, so the Giants ended up kicking off to start the game.

There was a quick turn over two plays later, but then 2 plays after that, we intercepted a pass, and were back on track.

A few plays after that, it was quickly 7 - 0...

I brought my Canon Rebel Camera... its awesome!

We ended up getting the ball back a few plays later through another turnover, and were on the march again...

... right into the End Zone... Alexander made it 14-0 - it almost looked TOO easy!

The fans were worked up into a decent frenzy... I learned on the news later that the NFL had recorded the fan noise at more than 120 decibels... a rock concert typically averages about 100-110.

We had had several problems with blocked field goals.  On this one, a point after, a Giant defender got his hand on the ball, but it went through anyway.

There were no mishaps after that, but it seems the problem still isn't done.

The first quarter Offensive numbers showed how things were going pretty well...  Alexander was playing hurt, and the Giants were containing the run pretty well, but the rest of the game was owned by the Seattle Offense.

The running game wasn't what it has been in recent games - going back into last year.

It was either the Giants were doing well at containment, or without Alexander, we were predictable, or a bit of both, but we could not get anything going on the ground, it seemed.

Symetra is the Corporate sponsor of the Seahawk's "Heroes in the Classroom" campaign... They've been beating that drum for a while, but until today, I hadn't seen anything at the game about it.

American Family is all over the place, as is Farmers... it was nice to see and hear Symetra finally.

Eli Payton did a bit better in the second half.  Adjustments on the Giant offensive scheme combined with a "lets not blow it" attitude by the defense seemed to soften things up.

The Seahawks, with the largely ineffective running game, had trouble draining the clock.  They were up 42-3 at one point, so it wasn't critical to the game, but the Giants did come back and make the score look sort of respectable.

In the end, the Seahawks won, 42-30.

My throat still hurt, and my ears were still ringing the next day.

It was awesome!

After spending the majority of the afternoon as foes, the players all made up for whatever they had done during the game, and wished each other luck...

On the way out, we saw the Fox "Sweatbox" in the parking lot... they were here in Seattle this week.

While we were walking by, Terry went through his spirited review of the games of week 3... it was pretty interesting to watch.

In all, it was a great way to spend the afternoon, and Les and I had a great time!

I'm really looking forward to the next game!
