| 2006.07.15 - An evening at Chinook Pass | ||||||||

The Shadow Lady and I went on a drive one evening up to Chinook Pass to
take a hike around Naches Peak right at Sunset, for the fun of it, and
to see if we could get lucky and see a nice sunset scene. We got
lucky on both fronts! The trail is a 4.5 mile loop, and it goes from about 5,300 to 6,000 feet above sea level. The scenery, in my opinion, is VERY hard to beat! |

Of course, our Shadows came with us...
The view the various alpine lakes provide make the hike MORE than worth it... some of them almost take your breath away! |

The shady south side of Naches Peak's flanks were still covered with snow,
so we had to cross over the snowfields at times, adding to the
adventure. The most "adventurous" spot was when we had to cross past a falls up close to the cliff face, because the normal trail was covered with snow, and the stream had caused a huge crevasse... we got a bit wet, but that was OK... |

The water, fresh from the melting snow, was clear, pristine, and cold.
It really made for a nice view. We spent some time in the waning light to try and get a good picture of the two of us... we tried several shots, and angles... then gave up and kept walking... we both got a good laugh out of it, though! |

The wild flowers, only recently uncovered by the snow, were already coming out... the smells were AMAZING! | |||||||

At times, it seemed you could see forever!
Mt Adams was awesome, shining brightly over the purple mountains of the Cascades... |

Just as we were getting back to the truck, Mt Rainier peeked out over the
clouds, showing off its colors in the late afternoon sky. See more pictures from the hike on the hiking page: |
