2006.06.09 - The IVY Ceremony at SPU
< Back to Currently

The Shadow Lady's Sister is graduating from Seattle Pacific University (web site) this year... they had their "IVY Cutting" ceremony today... Every year, hundreds of graduating students and SPU faculty members suit up in their robes and assemble on Tiffany Loop, on the campus.

At the end of the ceremony, which began in the 1920's, each graduate receives a sprig of ivy, representing both their independence and their tie to SPU.

One thing is for sure... the college goes all out for the ceremony!  LOTS of folks show up to it, too.
The happy grad with her sprig of Ivy...

The family was there, which was nice... all three sisters, as well as their mom, graduated from SPU.

In 1891, delegates to the Oregon and Washington Conference of the Free Methodist Church voted to establish a school in Seattle where students would be educated and trained for missionary service by teachers whose lives represented the highest in Christian values.

Today, SPU remains one of the premier Christian colleges in the Pacific Northwest.
