2006.03.04 - Snowshoeing At The Pass

One of the gifts I got The Shadow Lady for Christmas was a pair of show shoes, along with a pair for me, to match.  A combination of schedules, weather, trips, and illness prevented us from heading up to the snow to use them... but this weekend, we made an extra effort, because we were using the weekend to celebrate her birthday...

The drive up there was awesome!  Partly cloudy, 32 degrees, and clear and dry roads at the pass, with very light traffic... very nice!

Since I was up there, I decided to see if "the shack" had been bought... it hadn't, so there's still hope!  J
We found the trail we were going to be going on, and put on our shoes.

A tree had been capped by the wind, and the top of it had a big blob of snow on it that we both thought was pretty interesting.

Shortly after starting our trek, we knew we had made a good choice... the day was perfect, cool, but not cold, a bit of a breeze, great views... it was going to be fun!
We passed by a couple also taking advantage of the weather for a stroll in the snow... they were nice folks, but she, for one, was beat, and was hoping the end was near!
We continued on our way down the roadway, closer to the lake.  The views were spectacualar!

I stopped by a sign, to show how deep the snow we were walking on was...

We got closer and closer to the lake... and the views got even better!

I posed with another sign, only this time the snow had drifted a bit, and had all but buried it.

Before too long, we got off the beaten path, and ventured into "new" snow... where no one had walked before.

The views were incredible!
There were places where the stream, for one reason or another, lay exposed to the air, where in others - most of the field, actually - it was covered by the snow... it made for a really nice view, though!
We made a snow angel and a big heart, and took some shadow pictures, and threw some snow around... it was fun!
It'd been a long time since we tromped around in the snow, just having fun...
The sun started to drift lower, so we reluctantly headed on back to the truck.

We had a great time, though, and we both knew we'd be back soon.

Next time, I'm bringing a Thermos of hot chocolate!
