The Shadow Lady and I joined up with a couple of her friends (the same
ones who went to the
Toby Mac/DC Talk a few months ago), and went to the Jars of Clay
concert. It was at the Overlake Christian Church again. I guess
they do a concert like this every couple of weeks... I might be coming
here again fairly soon, it seems... the Newsboys are coming an a month
or so!
I didn't realize all the songs that these guys sung... I liked more
of their music than I realized... I had a great time! |

Derek Webb opened the night's entertainment. Simple and soothing.
It was just him and his guitar, and it worked very well. He really
sent home a good message with a great voice and a lot of passion. |

Sarah Groves took over, after being introduced by her two young boys...
I didn't recognize any of her songs, and I don't think I've heard her
name before, but she sang well. It felt sort of folkish and campy
which was very pleasant. Her set was really dark at times, and
that made for difficult picture taking... |
 |
|
Some of her songs were pretty funny... she called them driving tunes, and
they were about problems that arise with kids... it was a good laugh. |

Then it was Jars of Clay's turn. They were a bit more high spirited
than the lead in bands, and the contrast blended in well... |

I like quite a few of their songs, but I think I gained a new appreciation
of their rendition of the Hymn I'll fly away. "... When I die,
Halleluja by and by, I'll fly away..." it was VERY well done.
They ended the night with that one, with Derek and Sarah out there,
too... it was a great way to end a very entertaining evening! |
