The Monster Trucks made their annual trek to the Tacoma Dome, and for the
first time since the mid-80's, when I was stationed here in the Army, I
went to watch the Metallic Carnage of Thunder. I took the Shadow
Lady, who had never been to a Monster Truck Show, and who is an AWESOME
sport!. I had a great time, and she admitted that it was
more fun than she thought it would be. The Tacoma Dome was flying a "12th Man" flag... EVERYONE is in the football frenzy, especially since the Sea Hawks won the first of two playoff games... only one more game to play in order to go to the Big Show - Super Bowl 40. Oh... back to the trucks... we entered the Dome during the time trials for the off-road trucks, who would be racing in between the Monster Truck rounds. |

They trucked in a considerable amount of dirt into the dome, and set up a
fairly rough course for the rally trucks. My favorite was a little white Jeep... a throwback to when I used to have a Jeep, which remains the "Best vehicle I ever owned" -- everyone has one, I think. |

The US Army came out to present the colors, escorting the lady singing the National Anthem in a Hummer recently back from Iraq.

| Starting off the show, the mini carts races around two of the pylons... the drivers were 6-12 years old... and those little things went FAST... it was fun to watch. |

Then, out came the trucks... its pretty awesome to watch those big, heavy contraptions tear around the course.. their engines generate more than 700 horsepower, and the drive train is VERY stout in order to handle the forces involved... its pretty incredible!

| The rally races were fun to watch, too. The old red Ford made it until the semi finals, as did the little white Jeep. They didn't have the vehicles that the two finalists had, but they drove very well, which allowed them to make it to the final 4... The two Ford Rangers, set up for SCORE/HYDRA, and driven by best friends and team mates went at it in the final go around... the green truck won, which was amazing because a 4 cylinder 2WD beat a V8 4WD. |

After the racing was over and the Escalade won it all, the trucks put on a
show.... an average truck cost about $250,000 or more... and they were
out there tearing them up!
The "Pimp Wagon" Escalade had some amazing power, and caught a huge amount of air, knocking its hood off when it landed... |

The "Blue Thunder" truck did a roll over, landing on its wheels, and
continued the 90-second Freestyle Event... Triceratops wowed the crowd with its wheelies that its famous for, but the Escalade stole the show with its roll over and crash. Gravedigger did a roll, also, and put on a GREAT show... In all, it was a very fun evening!!! |
