The Shadow Lady was 'babysitting' a house and a dog for a friend of hers.  She had the "OK" to invite folks over for Thanksgiving, and happily I was on the list... I was even more happy to learn that I was going to be able to cook.

Thanksgiving, to me, is so much more than the food... its an opportunity for the whole country to come together and give thanks.  Whether or not they want to admit it, this is one of the most religious holidays in the US... who else can you thank, if not God?

But, in addition to giving thanks, I really like the traditional feast... I love to cook, and I love eating even more!  :-)   The plan was to have 3 guests, plus me and the Shadow Lady... so we made the menu and picked up too much stuff even for that number.  2 of the folks bowed out, which left even more for us -- we went ahead with the original plan, anyway.

I got an early start while the Shadow Lady vacuumed, and straitened up a bit... by the time she broke out my camera, the bird was stuffed, and I was working on the final garlic butter rub.

I got him in the oven at 8:39 -- 9 minutes behind schedule!

After that, things slowed down for me, and I joined Les and The Shadow Lady watching the Parade...

I count myself lucky -- most of the joy of the parade still is there for me... although, I do miss the fact that Santa comes in on a different float than "Old Tom"...

Then it was off to the games.  Detroit was already loosing miserably by that point, but we didn't care... we chatted about stuff, and had a great time!
After a few basting sessions, and a few trips into the kitchen to put in the assorted side dishes -- and tend to the Maple-basted ham, the Bird was ready.  My guestimate for the time the Bird would be done was about 45 minutes late... but I adjusted the side dishes accordingly, and everything got done within about 10-15 minutes of each other.

I'm getting better at doing that.

The bird came out GREAT!  WAY moist, and done through... one of the better one's I've done, I think.

We carved up the bird, and set everything out on the table... we could have fed a dozen people, I think!
We read a Psalm of Thanksgiving, gave thanks for the meal, and dug in...

Everything came out great, and we all had a great time!

Something else to be thankful for!
