2005.10.23 - Along the muddy banks of the Wishkah

The Shadow Lady went down to her hometown church to sing in their "In the Light" worship service.  Its a once-a-month service with the cousins filled with prayer, Bible-reading, and worship in song.  It's quite amazing, actually... I've gone nearly every month since we've known each other.

The drive down, as always, was NICE... Its "my weather" season... There was a light drizzle, just enough to keep things clean, fresh and cool.  Being early on a Sunday, there basically was no traffic to deal with, either.

(Note, The title of this item is garnished from Kurt Cobain's last live album, "From The Muddy Banks of the Wiskah"... I was driving through the valley, so I borrowed a reference...)

Through Tacoma and Olympia, it was raining a bit harder.

Without a lot of traffic, though, it wasn't much of a problem.

Once out on US 101, heading for the coast, things went back to the light drizzle the PNW is famous for.

With the leaves changing, no traffic, and light, misty fog... it was a great drive!

Morning mists over the trees, on a calm, cool, quiet morning... THIS is why I love the weather in the Pacific Northwest!
As I drove though Aberdeen, I passed by one of the two Weyerhaeuser mills that they're closing.  With all the restrictions placed on logging, it became too difficult to keep the old plant profitable.

It might be scarfed up by another timber company, but jobs might be even tighter for a while...

I passed through the Wishkah valley, and along the Wishkah river.  Its where Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain was from... He apparently was killed 10 years ago or so in Seattle by his girlfriend.  He never forgot his roots, and after having driven though there a few times, I can understand why!
I made it in time for church, and afterwards, we got pizza, and ate with her folks, watching the World Series game.

Then, we went to practice, and I snapped a few of the crew...

They're really good!  Most of them are part of the worship team, also.

I like going down there... most of the folks in the church know me by now, so I kinda feel at home... plus, I get to watch and hear the Shadow Lady... very nice!
